Queen for a Day!

I don't know how it is where you are, but in Mississippi it is feeling like Spring! It seems like the past few things I've made have been a bit on the brown side - today I was in the mood to make something pretty!

I have had the idea of using the Scrollwork die as a crown base for ages. I finally was inspired to use it when I saw that the Grungy Monday challenge for this week was wearable art. Not sure that I will be wearing this a lot, but you never know! ;-) I cut the pieces from chipboard and gave them my Faux Tarnished Silver treatment. I joined the pieces together using Mini Fasteners to create the crown shape. Trim from the Lavish Trimmings collection was attached around the bottom. I added a little velvet ribbon over the top of that. So pretty!

I know most people probably polish their silver, but I leave all of mine tarnished. I love the vintage look of it (I'm also pretty lazy). That's why I love this technique so much. It really does look like old silver - at least I think it does!

The flourishes were all cut from chipboard using the Sizzix Elegant Flourishes die. They were covered with Martha's glitter. The flowers were cut from polyester lining fabric using the Sizzix Tattered Florals die. They were dyed with Antique Linen Distress Stain and then finished like this. Adding the little diamond in the center made them perfect for Hels' Sunday Stamper challenge this week!

The butterflies were cut from plain white paper using the Sizzix Mini Butterflies die. I stained them using Spun Sugar and Broken China Distress Stain. I also added a little Picket Fence over the top to tone them down a bit. Finally, I added rosettes cut from Tim's Vintage Shabby Paper Stash using the Sizzix Mini Rosette die.

I hope you enjoyed my ode to Spring! If you need any of the supplies I used to make my crown, they are all available at Inspiration Emporium through the links below. Don't forget - today is the last day to use the coupon code leapyear to save 20% off your order!
