TH June Tag + CC2 Challenge

I was so happy to see that one of the techniques Tim Holtz used for this month's 12 Tags of 2012 was Marbled Stains. I had just made a tag using that technique a few days ago and was dying to use it! It ended up setting the whole tone for my piece. I needed to create something with a beach theme for another challenge and thought this pic of my kids would be perfect for the other technique he used. I don't have the nibs yet, so I used my Distress markers instead.

One of my favorite things from the old 12 Tags of Christmas was finding substitutions - living so far out in the country, it's not always easy to run to the store and pick up supplies. These days I have so much of the stuff, but I still think it's fun to try something different. For my little tab on the right, I used the Sizzix Tiny Tabs and Tags die to create a little paper tag. I punched a circle, colored it, stamped it with a tiny number set from 7 Gypsies, and then attached it with my Tiny Attacher. I really wanted the metal number to be a two, but I didn't have that one. So, I used my 25 Movers and Shapers die and cut one from thin metal. I love that the die kind of shaped it too! At the top I added sand in an Idea-ology Corked Vial and another tag marked with the name of the beach we were at.

This week's Compendium of Curiosities challenge is all about reusing packaging. I love this technique from the Technique Junkie newsletter for making little flowers! When my tag started turning into more of a scrapbook piece, I decided to adhere it to a block and make it something that I could have out to remind me of that trip (look, I'm totally turning into a scrapbooker!). I scrounged a wood block and painted it with Frayed Burlap Distress Crackle Paint. I added some twine and a couple shells and I was done. I am just thrilled with how it came out!

If you'd like to purchase any of the items I used - including Tim's wonderful book - they are available from Inspiration Emporium through the links below. Make sure you use my coupon code - stamptramp - to save yourself 10%!

Thanks so much for stopping by, have a wonderful weekend! :)

  7. Hello Shelly
Once again you have created a visual appealing piece of work, your photo sets the scene, and then your elements of the shells and little sand bottle complete the picture, and what can I say about that amazing flower other than it is amazing, and sits so well with the rest of the elements. Your subtle colour palette with the hint of turquoise is just perfect.
