Easy Pop it Ups Dollar Tree Valentines

Yes, you read that right - Dollar Tree valentines! If you follow me on Facebook or Instagram, you know that I have been obsessed lately with the great finds at The Dollar Tree. I saw that people were getting really nice baker's twine and washi tape there and finally scored some. While I was browsing, I also found blank white cards with envelopes, heart gems, and these cool ribbon rose hearts, and an idea was born: I would challenge myself to make simple Valentine's Day cards with nothing but my dollar store finds, rubber stamps, and Karen Burniston's super cute Heart Pivot die!

Here's what I started with. Everything was purchased at The Dollar Tree, except for the black washi tape which I found at Target in the Dollar Spot. The baker's twine comes in a pack of three different colors - such a great deal! And, it's hard to see in the photo, but the gold glitter washi tape is absolutely gorgeous. The cards come ten per pack. I only made five valentines, but if I'd had time, I had enough supplies to make lots more! I had to check at several different stores to find the products, so don't be discouraged if you don't find them at the first store you check. I'm lucky to have several in my area to choose from.

Even though it was really hard for me to leave the cards white, I wanted to challenge myself to keep to a simple color scheme and focus on making the cards quick and easy - and also find unique ways of using the products. For this card, I first stamped the damask with Jet Black Archival ink. Since I didn't want to use anything other than the DT stuff, I used the pink cardboard insert from one of the packages to cut the word 'love' using the Elizabeth Craft Designs alpha die. The washi tape was too narrow to cut the whole key from, so I cut it in two sections and joined it. You can hardly see the seam!

On the inside I added more glittery washi tape and a simple stamped sentiment. Lots of room left to write a love note!

This card is a great example of how a stamp can transform a plain white card into something special. I love the new Floral stamp from Tim Holtz's latest release! To finish the card front, I added gold washi and tiny heart gems.

On the inside, I stamped a sentiment from Tim's new Handwritten Sentiments stamp set and a row of hearts from his new watercolor set. Another glittered key and some washi tape finishes the inside nicely.

This one is probably my favorite. I made each card with a particular person in mind. This one is for my daughter, who loves Kate Spade. I thought the color scheme was very KS and the polka dot stamp was perfect for the front. The washi tape was just wide enough for me to die cut these sweet little butterflies from Karen Burniston's Butterfly Pivot Card set.

I also used the washi tape to cut out the letters to spell adore. The i and you are from Tim Holtz's Simple Sayings set. The black lace washi is perfect to trim the bottom of the card.

Another one of my favorite stamps from Tim's new release is this gorgeous lady from his Runway set. So elegant!

Since this card had a bit of a fashion theme, I thought the Eiffel Tower from Karen Burniston's Eiffel Tower Pop Stand set was perfect for the inside. I did allow myself to use a bit of black cardstock from my stash!

For my last card, I got a bit crafty with some wire I'd bought in the hardware section. I wrote the word Love on a paper scrap and used it as a guide to shape the wire. I added a stamped flourish and washi tape along the bottom.

On the inside, more stamped flourishes and a sentiment from one of Tim's older clear stamp sets.

I hope this has inspired you to take a fresh look at your dollar store. By using Pop it Ups dies with premade cards, you can turn something ho hum into a work of art - and do it in no time at all!

Other than the dollar store materials, the supplies I used can be found at Inspiration Emporium, Elizabeth Craft Designs, and Simon Says Stamp. The Tim Holtz stamps are available for preorder at IE and you can you my coupon code - stamptramp - to save 10% on them, and your entire order!

I thought it would be fun to show another card made with the same die, but styled completely differently. This one is colorful and grungy - a total contrast to the dollar store cards above. It just goes to show you that you can dress a Pop it Ups die up or down; it's all up to you!

Thanks so much for stopping by today - have a great week!
