Halloween Bell Jar

It's been WAY too long since I've had a chance to join in with everyone over at Linda's Compendium of Curiosities challenge. This week's technique is Creative Core'dinations, featured on page 61 of Tim Holtz's fantastic book. I don't know how creative I got with my Core'dinations, but I couldn't pass up the chance to use it - I love that stuff!

A week or so ago I got Eileen Hull's awesome Cupcake Stand die and the little gerbils that run my brain got on their wheels and the idea of using one as a stand for a Bell Jar/Cloche took root.

Since I can't get Halloween off my mind, I decided to go with that as a theme. The hardest part was finding something for the top that didn't scream ' upside down dollar store candle holder.' Which is what this is. :) But I think it works - right? Under the glass, I added a Corked Vial that was treated with Wendy Vecchi's cool crackled glass technique (omg, now I'm thinking...how cool would her technique look on the dome?!), some mini pumpkins, Sizzix bats cut from Kraft Core'dinations, and a little silhouette from Tim's new Mini Halloween 3 set.

I used Eileen's white mat board to create the stand. The bottom was painted with a Pitch Black Dabber and then covered with Martha Stewart glitter. Since my dome was a little bigger than the top, I cut another panel of mat board slightly larger and covered it with paper from Echo Park's Apothecary Emporium paper pad. The scalloped part of the base was covered with orange Kraft Core'dinations.

The top was finished with a rosette edged with the new idea-ology Tinsel Twine and topped with a Curio Knob.

The supplies I used can be found at Inspiration Emporium via the links below. They also have a TON of the new CHA releases available for pre-order! Make sure you use my coupon code - stamptramp - to save 10% off your order!

I hope you like my little Halloween bell jar! I am already imagining how cute this would be for Christmas. Thanks so much to Simon Says Stamp for sponsoring this week's CCC2 challenge.

Have a great weekend - get inky! :)

  1. It's loverly! Now you are enabling me to buy the cupcake stand die, hehe! I have wanted this one anyway and thanks for the great ideas for the cloche. I was inspired by Tim's belljar and pedestal die but couldn't figure out the cloche, now I have some inspiration. How about steampunkin the cupcake stand. I would love to see what you do with that!

  6. Too freakin' cool. And I don't know if it's sad or just faintly amusing that I immediately knew what the glass was, as I have Da DeeTee's inventory memorized. But so so cool. I need the stand die- real bad. And yes, I think we might be twins, because I had a very very similar idea when I first saw the cupcake stand on the Sizzix blog. But, of course, I was busy trying to make envelopes out of comic books that I bought at da DeeTee....

  12. Whatever you did to the upside-down candle holder, it worked, because my first thought was, "Where did she get that cool jar?!?" Hee hee! =) I love the tinsel edged rosette...will definitely be stealing that idea. Thanks for the always fabulous inspiration!

  13. Hello shelly,

What a cool idee! Did't even recognice the bell jar as a candle holder!!!
I'll steal this idea for my halloweendecor this year!.... But i'll give you credit!!

The use of the glass curio knob really makes it look like a real bell jar. The orange rosette looks like it's wrapped around the " glass" knob.

A row of these with curiosities in would look perfect in a halloween decor. I hope you have the halloweenbug a lot longer so we can enjoy even more inspiration!

    Thanks for sharing
