Hi all! It's been awhile since I've been able to join in with Karen Burniston's monthly Designer Challenge, but I'm so excited that I finally have been able to find some time to craft and created a card for the challenge using one of my favorite dies from her new release - the Photo Collage Pop-Up. I paired it with papers from Graphic 45's Imagine collection for a pretty birthday card for my daughter-in-law.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi32Gv49Er83Kn8Pfwa7JfbzdbrBdx5IvihW104wwmpI_XuibLAkt2LyY8KEt1m_lpU___buqTUtGOzwehrTHxbImTkHov1X9H5gkhXCX8NSoV2yLhuqJoxiUETX-Xm0VBXRpQOcqv3KtBE/s1600/shelly+hickox+pop+up+front.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="641" data-original-width="500" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi32Gv49Er83Kn8Pfwa7JfbzdbrBdx5IvihW104wwmpI_XuibLAkt2LyY8KEt1m_lpU___buqTUtGOzwehrTHxbImTkHov1X9H5gkhXCX8NSoV2yLhuqJoxiUETX-Xm0VBXRpQOcqv3KtBE/s1600/shelly+hickox+pop+up+front.jpg" /></a></div>
The front is fairly simple, with a panel cut from the paper and embellishments that were fussy cut and adhered to the corners.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiprGGoYUF6fiXYvilCeCXg1bn9TMlC7yRwf8XDUNEdYviJHWgFp7dNTVv7T8SH-xK7tvsx5lKbb_7yQpEzcqh0Vkv6_5NPjFzVIDLr9srqO6HcDgMLMRjqNy34vIaDYcKtkdcD8VUy0XA3/s1600/shelly+hickox+g45+pop+up.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="724" data-original-width="700" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiprGGoYUF6fiXYvilCeCXg1bn9TMlC7yRwf8XDUNEdYviJHWgFp7dNTVv7T8SH-xK7tvsx5lKbb_7yQpEzcqh0Vkv6_5NPjFzVIDLr9srqO6HcDgMLMRjqNy34vIaDYcKtkdcD8VUy0XA3/s1600/shelly+hickox+g45+pop+up.jpg" /></a></div>
The front might be simple...but the inside is anything but! I love the mix of butterflies and other elements. It's such a fun card to open.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.blogger.com/video.g?token=AD6v5dz_4voveo60mqyhcA6Eqw2AtYv3RMWI36xMU6BXEmRihDp_VAtfyNb20H7hRg3quZHPUbcH3e_pBGMmvPGJ3Q' class='b-hbp-video b-uploaded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div>
And here it is! There are so many ways you could style this die. I can't wait to try some more themes with it!<br />

Hi all! I have a sweet Valentine's Day pop-up card to share with you today. Originally it was supposed to be for this month's Designer Challenge, but I was on vacation and totally lost track of time, and forgot to post it! The beach tends to have that effect on me, what can I say?!<br />
<br />
I am absolutely in love with Karen Burniston's new Woven Basket die - it's such a cool take on the pop-up box card. I decided to make my husband a somewhat masculine feeling Valentine's card, using the heart dies from Karen's new Heart Pivot Panels die and stamps from Tim Holtz. All the elements are attached to the card using strips of clear transparency.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNI80Ym1zHaDDLhgZYA4-EHTJqzeroRsu4vpGYX8Z4SensPI_xdbWf0MKUTTCgxoyiCuAYjG_IuNDYKD-l8bmkixVdZOQ39ULSQotPjy-hzJ1lqOGrgVjf9oyqN3GhdHvmVX8dZZs4LUpr/s1600/shelly+hickox+valentine+basket.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="768" data-original-width="695" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNI80Ym1zHaDDLhgZYA4-EHTJqzeroRsu4vpGYX8Z4SensPI_xdbWf0MKUTTCgxoyiCuAYjG_IuNDYKD-l8bmkixVdZOQ39ULSQotPjy-hzJ1lqOGrgVjf9oyqN3GhdHvmVX8dZZs4LUpr/s1600/shelly+hickox+valentine+basket.jpg" /></a></div>
I love that this folds completely flat for mailing. What a fun treat to send someone! And the possibilities are endless. You could style this in a cute, spring theme; shabby chic; holiday; etc. Oooh, and imagine it filled with some Graphic 45 fussing cutting!! It's really so versatile. I can't wait to play more with this die!<br />

Hi all! I'm so excited to share a card I made with a few of the dies from Karen Burniston's latest release. There are so many incredible dies in this collection - you are going to want them all!<br />
<br />
For this card, I used the new Oval Frames Pop Up die, the new Argyle and Party Border Blends, and the Rectangle - Crosshatch die from an earlier release. On the front of the card, I used the Rectangle die to cut a panel of canvas paper. On top I layered a collage paper from Tim Holtz. I used one of the new Border Blends (you are going to LOVE these!!) along the bottom. I used one of the ovals and a frame die from the Oval Frames set for the center embellishment.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6_uzJzO0YimgSIZXMAoxnh80g6UnftTiG0BFo1ksaO0B5ycC28DhmPGbpKPCHjiCmrlYsAFH1YKnXBuN8WiB4UzpwH7ANqrh6w29JcHmO0Fi5ToqKaplzLI-i6meYFMZ6zIJHFkoTalmn/s1600/shelly+hickox+oval+frame+bird+card.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="599" data-original-width="775" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6_uzJzO0YimgSIZXMAoxnh80g6UnftTiG0BFo1ksaO0B5ycC28DhmPGbpKPCHjiCmrlYsAFH1YKnXBuN8WiB4UzpwH7ANqrh6w29JcHmO0Fi5ToqKaplzLI-i6meYFMZ6zIJHFkoTalmn/s1600/shelly+hickox+oval+frame+bird+card.jpg" /></a></div>
Here is the inside of the card - amazing, right?! As you open the card, four oval panels drop down and pop out, and the center two frames form a 3D accordion. You really have to see this one in action! The die set includes a small tree, which I used as branches for the fussy cut birds to perch on. Along the top, I used another one of the new border dies. The frames on the ovals were embossed with silver embossing powder to give them a metallic look.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGyWVglxU_Ud7fXdCIjiuO_4fT72VTH_pi-FVxU-yRTwB9JGJ98dMNRaHtGxYo4vM_xQU8qDWMZ-64uqnmmPWa8AEizsQ9FV4Yr6N3Ez7-0F5Ok7BnxzKQe9FElRg5TcFSfVKi-2d1Or_q/s1600/shelly+hickox+oval+frame+closeup.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="768" data-original-width="634" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGyWVglxU_Ud7fXdCIjiuO_4fT72VTH_pi-FVxU-yRTwB9JGJ98dMNRaHtGxYo4vM_xQU8qDWMZ-64uqnmmPWa8AEizsQ9FV4Yr6N3Ez7-0F5Ok7BnxzKQe9FElRg5TcFSfVKi-2d1Or_q/s1600/shelly+hickox+oval+frame+closeup.jpg" /></a></div>
Here you can get a better idea of how the frames pop out. It's seriously cool and surprisingly easy to use. <br />

Happy New Year, everyone! I'm back today with my card for this month's Karen Burniston Designer Challenge. The theme is 'New' and, since I'd just found this 'new' paper at Tuesday Morning, it would be perfect for the challenge.<br />
<br />
Also a bit new to me is Karen's Circle Charm Pop Up die. I've had it for awhile, but for some reason I hadn't used it it. After I started my card, I was amazed at how easy this pop-up die was to use! I used my other new favorite die set, the Crosshatch Rectangles, to cut my front and inside panels. They perfectly fit an A2 card and I love the crosshatch detail on the border.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

The front circle panel was stamped with a compass rose from Tim Holtz. I stamped a small hot air balloon image twice, then cut both out and sandwiched a piece of fishing line between them for the middle section. The hello is from Karen's Summer Word Set.<br />

Merry Christmas, everyone! I have a sweet little shadow box to share today and, as a holiday gift to all my readers, I'm sharing a printable download so you can make one for yourself!<br />
<br />
I have been saving this tiny vintage ornament box for years, knowing it would be perfect for a Christmas scene, but I never quite got around to using it. I came across it a few weeks ago and decided I would not let another year go by without creating something. I thought it would be a waste to use the original, so I took it apart and scanned it, then printed it out.<br />

Tim Holtz's Christmas Paper Dolls are the perfect size for this little box. I glued some strips of fiberfill to the bottom for snow, then added tiny trees, the paper dolls, and a tiny deer.<br />

The front is embellished with Tim's tinsel twine, a vintage ornament, number token, and a die cut branch. I cut tiny snowflakes from glitter paper using a die from Karen Burniston's Evergreen Pivot Panel set.<br />

Click on the image above to get the full sized scan for downloading. I printed it out on heavy 8.5" x 11" cardstock, adjusting it so it filled the full sheet. It came out much lighter than it looks in the scan (which I actually liked better!) - you can experiment to see what works for you. Then, just cut it out and score where you can see the fold lines, fold it up, and you're ready to decorate!<br />

I hope you all have a wonderful holiday season! Thanks so much for all of your comments, pins, and support over this past year. I haven't had as much time to create as I have in other years, but I'm hoping 2019 will be full of creativity!<br />

Hi all! Hope your December is off to a great start. It's time again for the Karen Burniston Designer Challenge. This month our theme is 'Ink It.' I love this challenge because I've gotten lazier and lazier in my cardmaking - using lots of designer paper and not much in the way of inks and stamping. Not good for a blog called Stamptramp! It was really nice to pull out all of my supplies and get creative - I haven't been doing that enough lately and I really miss it.<br />
<br />
I decided to create a woodsy feeling Christmas card. The base is plain kraft cardstock. On the front, I stamped a woodgrain image from Tim Holtz and embossed it with Ranger's Weathered White embossing powder. I love the look of weathered wood it gives! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgG7wQIVi1n1ogwdT2hrTVzcAi_SXO-N3uBRwcn3Fvt5FRwNyxpppatnYbQmlScDXwKgxm_o5MRu1HuSdr-OqWbXuH7Oe-ynkZZa0H142k_VUwsVukp44KV7Q-_n7ciW-U3nlrlBnM6BDGy/s1600/shelly+hickox+chunky+die+cut+letters.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="768" data-original-width="576" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgG7wQIVi1n1ogwdT2hrTVzcAi_SXO-N3uBRwcn3Fvt5FRwNyxpppatnYbQmlScDXwKgxm_o5MRu1HuSdr-OqWbXuH7Oe-ynkZZa0H142k_VUwsVukp44KV7Q-_n7ciW-U3nlrlBnM6BDGy/s1600/shelly+hickox+chunky+die+cut+letters.jpg" /></a></div>
The chunky letters were created by cutting multiple letters from thin cardstock with dies from Karen's Alphabet set. I stacked about five cutouts, gluing each one down securely. The top letter was cut from foil covered cardstock and glued on last. The edges were colored with a silver Sharpie so that they blended in. To give it an aged appearance, I dabbed it with black and silver paints. The wreath was created from a piece of wired greenery. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjScpNMaEeEXEaxGLxflv-SiqAWXQ1NeA3VhJLr-Ao1UbHsoxI3D_DrL7voVk0og4UH48dcmjD5hT7B51LqgQ_6f8rCrdXPRcuIOfkQgokLM6yEbN17CGuXQTn6CE3SIYsQBK9UUzr9IPqL/s1600/shelly+hickox+twist+christmas+card.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="768" data-original-width="576" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjScpNMaEeEXEaxGLxflv-SiqAWXQ1NeA3VhJLr-Ao1UbHsoxI3D_DrL7voVk0og4UH48dcmjD5hT7B51LqgQ_6f8rCrdXPRcuIOfkQgokLM6yEbN17CGuXQTn6CE3SIYsQBK9UUzr9IPqL/s1600/shelly+hickox+twist+christmas+card.jpg" /></a></div>
Oooh, the best part, right?! I told Karen I feel like I'm overusing this Twist Panel die, but it's so much fun and so easy to use! And SO perfect with Tim Holtz's Blueprint stamps.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRSkz2idVnti_UUEDCAsnWg6VrSAjwPARSyfVb94vYXB8q-xscoLXx8QkNYeY3pr3KUvUtAD3qISH3y_GFCCrFfXREqJ8BZHiFCS8tFFvCBgHGfQmM3BAZqio2i9DDxHdvxirsKmeFBpr4/s1600/IMG_0430.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="640" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRSkz2idVnti_UUEDCAsnWg6VrSAjwPARSyfVb94vYXB8q-xscoLXx8QkNYeY3pr3KUvUtAD3qISH3y_GFCCrFfXREqJ8BZHiFCS8tFFvCBgHGfQmM3BAZqio2i9DDxHdvxirsKmeFBpr4/s640/IMG_0430.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
I just got Tim's small stamping platform and thought I'd experiment with using it to color the Blueprint images. Especially when stamping on watercolor paper, it's so nice to be able to restamp if the image isn't very clear the first time you stamp it. For this card, I stamped first with Archival ink - very important to use a permanent ink since I knew I wanted to watercolor these images.<br />
<br />
After that, I colored the stamp with markers and stamped again. I used a waterbrush to pull the color into the image, but it wasn't intense enough, so I ended up coloring it directly (I still think it give it a cool look tho!). After it dried, I reinked the stamp, this time with clear ink, and embossed with clear embossing powder. I think the embossing really makes the image pop and kind of redefines the lines. I'm quite sold on stamping platforms now!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXSr_LHdAp7CCAyGBHvXfWw-S8oLxIsXoVeBN0PE5R0i2H93aVE8E6M-pvncHtLjnZJE-Oqmb8KbWOxpPv0DzS47L0-YBBQrV4abUvgmDDJO6S1DN6N3SO4Nbl0YrCzvrYDuBQr1XAIEsd/s1600/shelly+hickox+christmas+twist+card.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="703" data-original-width="573" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXSr_LHdAp7CCAyGBHvXfWw-S8oLxIsXoVeBN0PE5R0i2H93aVE8E6M-pvncHtLjnZJE-Oqmb8KbWOxpPv0DzS47L0-YBBQrV4abUvgmDDJO6S1DN6N3SO4Nbl0YrCzvrYDuBQr1XAIEsd/s1600/shelly+hickox+christmas+twist+card.jpg" /></a></div>
Don't those images just pop now?! You can barely see the shine from the clear ep, but it really adds a lot of dimension. The background on the card was made by coloring the greenery and pinecone stamps with markers and then stamping randomly. On the bottom I used a text stamp to give more interest. Finally, I used a greeting from Karen's Holiday Word Set to add a sentiment.<br />
<br />
You can find the supplies I used via the links below. Oh, and <a href="https://www.simonsaysstamp.com/" target="_blank">Simon Says Stamp</a> is offering an adorable Tiny Wreath Builder stamp and stencil set from Gina K free with ANY purchase right now! If you haven't seen the wreath builder stamps and stencils, they are so cool. And of course perfect to use with your stamping platform! I think I am going to go do a little shopping. :-)<br />

<br />
Hi all! It's time again for <a href="https://karenburniston.typepad.com/" target="_blank">Karen Burniston's</a> monthly Designer Challenge. This month, Karen chose the theme 'Christmas Tree'. Sometimes I ask my husband for ideas and he suggested I make a scene where people were chopping down their Christmas tree. I adapted that to a less ambitious scene where the tree has already been loaded up!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
On the front of my card, I used the sleigh from Karen's Sleigh Pop Up die set to create a wintry scene. The background was created with the tree die from her Outdoor Scene set. The sleigh is filled with gifts that were made using dies from the sleigh set, and a twine-wrapped tree from the Christmas Trees Pop Stand set.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

On the inside, I used the new Christmas Trees Pop Stand to create a woodsy scene, adding a deer that was cut using another die from the Outdoor Scene set.<br />

Hi all! Today I'm sharing a pretty fall accordion card I made for this month's Karen Burniston Designer Challenge. Our theme is 'Happy Fall, Y'all' and I thought that a flurry of colorful leaves would be perfect for this theme.<br />
<br />
I combine a couple of different techniques for my card. First was Karen's <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iOwZbfP47Hg" target="_blank">Staggered Charm Accordion</a>, where she flipped the orientation of the panels. To that, I added the 'floating gear' idea from a <a href="https://shellyhickox.blogspot.com/2014/08/glittery-steampunk-pop-it-ups-card.html" target="_blank">card I made</a> a few years ago. Since it might be hard to figure out from just looking at it, I thought I'd do a quick tutorial (I'm on a roll!) so you could make one of your own, if you wanted.<br />
<br />
Read on to see how it all came together...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvoxOoKyznMOLkBJgyjR5B7eg2neysGRYsvkMfrXiTEq1lQXj2G7SIZsvwpTz7fKW-roEeRNpdS-y-Dv_pYJGNp-JzaOWn9lgPGPviQo3bYwqXIgJZ7uZp0p6ZBB7IiAuch2KUg3Da6MsT/s1600/IMG_9683.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="440" data-original-width="595" height="295" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvoxOoKyznMOLkBJgyjR5B7eg2neysGRYsvkMfrXiTEq1lQXj2G7SIZsvwpTz7fKW-roEeRNpdS-y-Dv_pYJGNp-JzaOWn9lgPGPviQo3bYwqXIgJZ7uZp0p6ZBB7IiAuch2KUg3Da6MsT/s400/IMG_9683.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
Begin by cutting two panels from kraft cardstock and two panels from transparency/acetate using Karen's Charm Accordion die set.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjffdTamdsEfcESU3YD1kwz2_zTa2UECRW8hrlqKwSaNZEgBPOiLSrJp618XK5EgfNViXClyiEhknL5ZGDjw4ZNpv4iGXJu9y-YR-_rWiU16d-LmPTDby924Zz_YV2Sc2WR2O98Jh1NLdx/s1600/IMG_9685.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="640" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjffdTamdsEfcESU3YD1kwz2_zTa2UECRW8hrlqKwSaNZEgBPOiLSrJp618XK5EgfNViXClyiEhknL5ZGDjw4ZNpv4iGXJu9y-YR-_rWiU16d-LmPTDby924Zz_YV2Sc2WR2O98Jh1NLdx/s400/IMG_9685.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
Cut the kraft panels in half and cut out the center pivot panels. Cut just the center pivot panels from the transparencies, leaving a tab on each end to attach to the card.<br />

Stamp the kraft panels with a woodgrain stamp and ink the edges with brown ink. Cut three charm frame connectors from transparency. Cut six hinges from black cardstock and heat emboss with silver powder.<br />

To create the leaves, use the <a href="https://www.splitcoaststampers.com/resources/tutorials/wrinklefreedistress/" target="_blank">wrinkle-free distress technique</a> to color two panels of watercolor paper.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Assemble the card as shown above, first linking the panels with the hinges and brads. Adhere the clear panels using the small tabs, being sure to align them carefully. Add the leaves and clear charm frame connectors to complete your card. <br />

To finish the front (and to hide the tabs and brad ends!) I cut a panel from kraft core'dinations using the Charm Accordion die, cut it in half, removed the center, and adhered it to the front. The sentiment is from the new Word Set 7 - Autumn. <br />

Hi all! When I posted my last card in the <a href="https://www.facebook.com/groups/graphic45community/" target="_blank">Graphic 45 Facebook group</a>, one of the members commented that it was a bit too complicated for them. I agree that it can be overwhelming when you first start making any type of pop-up or folded card, so I thought it would be fun to show a card that has a similar feel to it, but is much more simple to construct.<br />
<br />
What takes this one from simple to fabulous is all the amazing Graphic 45 papers! I am on a mission to stop hoarding all of my favorite papers and release them into the wild. Rare Oddities was one of my favorite papers from a year (two?) ago and I thought it would be perfect for this card.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsxRJ3RXz2cPgTXvpowiu260WJ_6XBPjtHPo6A9Ep0g8ZBD5gif-RqV4rIUlCRlEi7fsPCr9396ksd3Siteu18H0GuPWFnWiLd-9_v-oW29w-3MZp09vVHYbitTKmDb94zikNaUqScsH8V/s1600/g45+card+front.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="919" data-original-width="730" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsxRJ3RXz2cPgTXvpowiu260WJ_6XBPjtHPo6A9Ep0g8ZBD5gif-RqV4rIUlCRlEi7fsPCr9396ksd3Siteu18H0GuPWFnWiLd-9_v-oW29w-3MZp09vVHYbitTKmDb94zikNaUqScsH8V/s640/g45+card+front.jpg" width="508" /></a></div>
I used some of my favorite new dies from Karen Burniston - like this cool Halloween sentiment - and lots of fussy cut elements. Follow along below to see how I made it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOQblCKgTyG8JMKznuLkllDjTNAOPecFe8PcEgEWW-y-FdlPDXC1-TdXAIH74vdZMl-RaUJdHs6Q15QpYHKFJm5hI-0YVoCrQqmcfn0WbC3boUHkpfpiniUto8PBWgVQPcOBWmW5Gyhr-B/s1600/IMG_9490.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="640" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOQblCKgTyG8JMKznuLkllDjTNAOPecFe8PcEgEWW-y-FdlPDXC1-TdXAIH74vdZMl-RaUJdHs6Q15QpYHKFJm5hI-0YVoCrQqmcfn0WbC3boUHkpfpiniUto8PBWgVQPcOBWmW5Gyhr-B/s640/IMG_9490.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
Begin by cutting two pieces of black cardstock measuring 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" (an 8.5" x 11" piece of cardstock cut in half). Score one piece in the center at 4 1/4". Score the other in the center, and then halfway between the center and each outer edge - from the left side your scores should be at 2 1/8",<br />
4 1/4", and 6 3/8". Fold on all score lines as shown and burnish with a bone folder.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfRm_4dCOMeIXSTppglrjaH0fg8IbfWfR4kYt50A3SwbLvQvg9BNcxobtK25Q73RXDlQoauED-7sqqTlFyQw42Ez5S50MFdTNz-SXZRKWvoK9zhfqADV_zle7jQHo4UpM_Nzkkw8iR-97e/s1600/IMG_9491.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="640" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfRm_4dCOMeIXSTppglrjaH0fg8IbfWfR4kYt50A3SwbLvQvg9BNcxobtK25Q73RXDlQoauED-7sqqTlFyQw42Ez5S50MFdTNz-SXZRKWvoK9zhfqADV_zle7jQHo4UpM_Nzkkw8iR-97e/s640/IMG_9491.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
Adhere a 4 1/8" x 5 3/8" panel in the center of the mountain-folded card. Align the 4 3/8" oval die from Karen Burniston's Ovals - Crosshatch die set in the center and use your die cutting machine to cut through both layers of paper. If you don't have a die, you could hand-cut this section.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEWp_nlkinQuqG59-Ie1tMDYzGpmo6F_W3QEalI_vnr8V2xs5nx9xg7x5YlB-dCSnSl5CF42SrWJPSsSmTKnBJULrqFJ3zuKX-GdMBQbGO6Fz2u_AujBjC1sXmz5Hm7wIgmH_JAFxUR1uQ/s1600/IMG_9492.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="640" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEWp_nlkinQuqG59-Ie1tMDYzGpmo6F_W3QEalI_vnr8V2xs5nx9xg7x5YlB-dCSnSl5CF42SrWJPSsSmTKnBJULrqFJ3zuKX-GdMBQbGO6Fz2u_AujBjC1sXmz5Hm7wIgmH_JAFxUR1uQ/s640/IMG_9492.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
Refold the card and ink the inside of the cutout with black ink.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguOuRXr-nH_RdHZsqhsIOw4LeOGVFt2QVSStjq9u1f8jsEhrpKDp8eScnfXHZXx0B-zB1PVWoxi2JMtaUIvEv9GqrqHc1UJbjvrxys7HTntAyt0OjavrWT2yWS3Xkfroy9X3aBMDwKoQ28/s1600/IMG_9494.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="640" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguOuRXr-nH_RdHZsqhsIOw4LeOGVFt2QVSStjq9u1f8jsEhrpKDp8eScnfXHZXx0B-zB1PVWoxi2JMtaUIvEv9GqrqHc1UJbjvrxys7HTntAyt0OjavrWT2yWS3Xkfroy9X3aBMDwKoQ28/s640/IMG_9494.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
Cut decorative elements from paper. Here I'm using Graphic 45's Rare Oddities paper (retired). Adhere a 4 1/8"x 5 3/8" panel to the center of the single-folded card.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNoVpPHYs6mQPFPwq4XZOGOGM3Cih2W2zeCsWx3TGVBxj-2AMZFfDz5r2eh7sb6bRGcBiMQ9Ers4F3TW-TejZxxwFjSde6R7hqePFvUA5aGFkjDtFPZfCCM0IZJzQb1dKfH-MEKZMt5H_r/s1600/IMG_9495.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="640" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNoVpPHYs6mQPFPwq4XZOGOGM3Cih2W2zeCsWx3TGVBxj-2AMZFfDz5r2eh7sb6bRGcBiMQ9Ers4F3TW-TejZxxwFjSde6R7hqePFvUA5aGFkjDtFPZfCCM0IZJzQb1dKfH-MEKZMt5H_r/s640/IMG_9495.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
To create the pop-out element for the backing card, score a panel in the center, and 1/4" from each side. (My panel was a bit small, so I added strips to widen it.) Fold as shown and apply adhesive to outer tabs. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrbYKQRtOoZ8UpvfUYrJlyt3cn-_npVXfrPYRrqz3tYtte-lGx9LjyBI4HSNXVXZabfdjmarP1mgbh3XzgpYexUt0SYFLqwNbHhHI1Ust3RR_owe0K1Yx8xP4dtXcXDtU_VxbFpEaz13eG/s1600/IMG_9497.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="640" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrbYKQRtOoZ8UpvfUYrJlyt3cn-_npVXfrPYRrqz3tYtte-lGx9LjyBI4HSNXVXZabfdjmarP1mgbh3XzgpYexUt0SYFLqwNbHhHI1Ust3RR_owe0K1Yx8xP4dtXcXDtU_VxbFpEaz13eG/s640/IMG_9497.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
With both pieces lying flat, align the center fold of the small panel with the center of the card and adhere. Pop center panel out as shown and retrain the folds.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGV96DMJRFEy5QOkjcnbvtvCJTj031f7hHXQ_efOo1esbQU123Zt0d0JW1EKC96vqTiCsaBk5-TbkzltJ6-bit64UEu9QGcU9LsDa1wQQ-GDtsAyHLT9PakobstMn7eV1Sd7ZXVdGU_rYy/s1600/IMG_9500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="640" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGV96DMJRFEy5QOkjcnbvtvCJTj031f7hHXQ_efOo1esbQU123Zt0d0JW1EKC96vqTiCsaBk5-TbkzltJ6-bit64UEu9QGcU9LsDa1wQQ-GDtsAyHLT9PakobstMn7eV1Sd7ZXVdGU_rYy/s640/IMG_9500.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
To create a frame for the opening, nest two oval dies from Karen Burniston's Ovals - Crosshatch die set as shown and die cut.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFGSbzASfNbU7eL7_hhBecPKV3HvkWl5tgmF95LrnznvhGKZydxW-xtBRp5PuV1stccZOqo1wIhGAP78g7UfL8k5FVDUi0nNwEtLq8r45zme6HZDQ7FppPOWqlN_3VJg78dmNOnmG1zIgT/s1600/IMG_9502.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="640" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFGSbzASfNbU7eL7_hhBecPKV3HvkWl5tgmF95LrnznvhGKZydxW-xtBRp5PuV1stccZOqo1wIhGAP78g7UfL8k5FVDUi0nNwEtLq8r45zme6HZDQ7FppPOWqlN_3VJg78dmNOnmG1zIgT/s640/IMG_9502.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
Adhere frame and other elements to card as shown.<br />

Here you can see how it folds up when closed. So cool!! It is a bit bulky because of the paper I used and how many layers there are - it will most likely need extra postage.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsFTLkvfPkKUJx-0Jcd-2KJhgwfOMO8TZ4ZOTBVx9KSToxb1D1w_lwg273YscKNIywhakz-5AQOz4hRQm44QckGup_uc-5MSJI5_9FhHSPU5vcA2D2RY-m69CrMThdWcasfQCrVtLPehYx/s1600/shelly+hickox+rare+oddities+tunnel+card.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="778" data-original-width="730" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsFTLkvfPkKUJx-0Jcd-2KJhgwfOMO8TZ4ZOTBVx9KSToxb1D1w_lwg273YscKNIywhakz-5AQOz4hRQm44QckGup_uc-5MSJI5_9FhHSPU5vcA2D2RY-m69CrMThdWcasfQCrVtLPehYx/s1600/shelly+hickox+rare+oddities+tunnel+card.jpg" /></a></div>
If you've never made a tunnel card before, I suggest using plain cardstock and making a sample card before you start cutting into your fancy papers. I do this with almost any new pop-up die or card fold and it makes it much less stressful when you don't have to worry about messing up! You can also play with where you'd like to place your elements, etc. My biggest problem with cards like this is knowing when to stop!<br />
<br />
I hope you enjoyed this tutorial. It's been ages since I've done one and it was a lot of fun - I might have to do this more often. :-)<br />

Hi everyone! Sorry I've been so absent lately - it seems like this summer has flown by. I've had a lot of different things going on and just haven't had <strike>a lot of</strike> <i>any</i> time to spend in the studio. I always plan to enter something into Graphic 45's challenges, but it seems like I always run out of time and never get something made. This month, I actually have something to share!<br />
<br />
Recently, my friend <a href="http://cyndiwatkins.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Cyndi</a> came up with the coolest idea for a pop-up tunnel card and taught our little group of crafty friends how to make it. I had just bought the Imagine paper collection and couldn't wait to dig into it for this card. <br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I mean....right?!? Unfortunately Cyndi's been really busy and hasn't had a chance to post a tutorial for this card. I am bugging her though, and hopefully she'll get one made up, because everyone needs to make this card. It's so much easier than it looks and you can keep it simple (no clue how to do that!) or go crazy with the embellishments (I am well-versed on that).<br />

This is such a fun card if you enjoy lots of fussy cutting. The Imagine collection has to be one of my all-time favorites from Graphic 45. There are so many great elements to cut out! It's hard to see, but even the house and tiny balloons on the very back of the card are 3D. This is truly one of those cards you have to see in person to really appreciate!<br />

Hi all! It's time again for Karen Burniston's Designer Challenge. This month, the theme is Houses. I couldn't wait to use dies from Karen's latest release! I thought her new House Pivot Panels die would make adorable haunted houses. The awesome thing about the House Pivot die is that it can be used alone, or with the Twist Panel and Tag Book dies. How cool is that?<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPs3tYHGEUS5ExCYGYQoRe6y062fAFmETYbus_B3KxbEHuHL83Y5qeiiA2lJsVFjHQ-qveyBI3KM_Adwy3Hc7scu7tceWqatL2m-tEX-Fo8HvgHp8g-YNvPueHDCXTPSJCEcD-8Mtlh7A4/s1600/shelly+hickox+halloween+card.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="768" data-original-width="645" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPs3tYHGEUS5ExCYGYQoRe6y062fAFmETYbus_B3KxbEHuHL83Y5qeiiA2lJsVFjHQ-qveyBI3KM_Adwy3Hc7scu7tceWqatL2m-tEX-Fo8HvgHp8g-YNvPueHDCXTPSJCEcD-8Mtlh7A4/s1600/shelly+hickox+halloween+card.jpg" /></a></div>
I kept the front fairly simple, decorating it with papers from Tim Holtz and dies from Karen's Halloween collections.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgI-HoKiohUoW6GnQtxLz2hxLqAf_ziGvaMXP3HGoq4-eLKuPcrLIqYvro5lia4xSQPZbeXA6_NKdAzh43R_OZJCWnQwnJweCU_XQCpU5WisclDtGsQpm6UyI28BZQdJxgLDxOA2-you9F4/s1600/shelly+hickox+halloween+pop+up.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="768" data-original-width="576" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgI-HoKiohUoW6GnQtxLz2hxLqAf_ziGvaMXP3HGoq4-eLKuPcrLIqYvro5lia4xSQPZbeXA6_NKdAzh43R_OZJCWnQwnJweCU_XQCpU5WisclDtGsQpm6UyI28BZQdJxgLDxOA2-you9F4/s1600/shelly+hickox+halloween+pop+up.jpg" /></a></div>
The tiny houses were cut from various Tim Holtz papers and embellished with Tim's trinkets. The sentiment behind the panels is one of my favorite dies from Karen's new Halloween Charms collection.<br />

My first card features stamps from Darkroom Door's Gardening Vol 2 stamp set. Most of you probably know I love gardening so this stamp set really spoke to me! On the front of my card, I cut a panel from oatmeal cardstock using Karen's new Rectangles Crosshatch die set. I love that the largest of the rectangles fits an A2 card perfectly! To decorate the panel, I stamped the daisy repeatedly with Pumice Stone Distress ink. I stamped the flower pot three times, then colored each pot and cut it out. I used pop dots to attach them to the card. The sentiment is from Karen's new Word Set 6 die set.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhECoQrQzJmZUVrQimwHhZdbbl48ZraRxYlLbWVhUqHGFHwLD-F0rnp-pTqawOLT84lig3GYQ090HvGoCBAHfggX3RNvUlNuiQ8AWwanZ2_5z3PcwCbVBowJLlsm4QWwEFnYtOjj_B1BY5Z/s1600/shelly+hickox+pop+up+garden+card.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="768" data-original-width="623" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhECoQrQzJmZUVrQimwHhZdbbl48ZraRxYlLbWVhUqHGFHwLD-F0rnp-pTqawOLT84lig3GYQ090HvGoCBAHfggX3RNvUlNuiQ8AWwanZ2_5z3PcwCbVBowJLlsm4QWwEFnYtOjj_B1BY5Z/s1600/shelly+hickox+pop+up+garden+card.jpg" /></a></div>
Now for the really fun part - the pop-up! I used Karen's new Upsy Daisy set to really show off these cute stamps. The watering can and flower pot were both stamped on white cardstock with gray ink, and then colored with Distress inks. As the card is opened, the three panels raise up and out slightly. Such a cool die set and I love how well the stamps work with it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhA0IfAtNCtGltyUYcjkipEVNLUiQGXuafU8xkRYKoQ_qPgzD4sa2zghg4YBg4hGCjQBocSl82aCINSacQXp2SAP5xDkR4h__pMJX4AjbDhIoZufn_-pxjYNyXCzZnA8pMll7Owm9-oNddi/s1600/shelly+hickox+darkroom+door+card.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="768" data-original-width="601" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhA0IfAtNCtGltyUYcjkipEVNLUiQGXuafU8xkRYKoQ_qPgzD4sa2zghg4YBg4hGCjQBocSl82aCINSacQXp2SAP5xDkR4h__pMJX4AjbDhIoZufn_-pxjYNyXCzZnA8pMll7Owm9-oNddi/s1600/shelly+hickox+darkroom+door+card.jpg" /></a></div>
Too cute! I love this paper from Carta Bella - it matches the stamps so perfectly. The fence was stamped on a neutral paper from the set and then cut out with an exacto knife.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

It's a little overexposed, but I made a quick video of the card opening and closing, so you can see how the mechanism works. So fun!<br />

For my second card, I used DD's Cup of Tea stamp set. I was really excited to use this set...you'll see why in the next pic. :-)<br />
<br />
For the front of my card, I stamped the teacup image three times on designer paper, heat embossed with Ranger's Watering Can powder, and cut them out. I used pop dots to adhere them to a canvas panel that I stamped with the silverware image from the set. The teabag was stamped on white cardstock and inserted into the top cup with a length of paper string attached.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBOPFvOozGgW4f64rAGwISYeDw_Aje1hxMwVA4L29omI-CQeWogkNq3Yl2bISr4Clj7-wR6ytf-ynLuSrJkq23_zAypayD3ytJUlhO-6Jz7g7_od5hjStsL4LqwXcMtLy11JA5hVS_9dGt/s1600/shelly+hickox+teapot+card.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="768" data-original-width="688" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBOPFvOozGgW4f64rAGwISYeDw_Aje1hxMwVA4L29omI-CQeWogkNq3Yl2bISr4Clj7-wR6ytf-ynLuSrJkq23_zAypayD3ytJUlhO-6Jz7g7_od5hjStsL4LqwXcMtLy11JA5hVS_9dGt/s1600/shelly+hickox+teapot+card.jpg" /></a></div>
Here's why I was so excited to get this set - the mechanism on Karen's Spinner Square die actually makes the teapot pour!! I mean, come on. How cool is that?!? And it's such an awesome teapot stamp! Like the teacups, I stamped it onto coordinating paper and then heat embossed with Watering Can embossing powder. The panel in front was cut with dies from Karen's new Squares Crosshatch set. The teacup was stamped and embossed in the same was as the cups on the front. The little spoon (adorable!) was stamped and then heat embossed with silver powder.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2KWlIPd4nws26tMzYS2pwrDWncaA1axf3Hv3LKES_FEiYvnbH6TEfK_MUYzDCylgRDiNOUvurf9LYFOovZkyN1Qvjb32e4OAK-aD8AeKQ39BeHbUVp2kzEXC78b2fOzi6H23kbsS1Jpql/s1600/shelly+hickox+teapot+pop+up+card.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="525" data-original-width="700" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2KWlIPd4nws26tMzYS2pwrDWncaA1axf3Hv3LKES_FEiYvnbH6TEfK_MUYzDCylgRDiNOUvurf9LYFOovZkyN1Qvjb32e4OAK-aD8AeKQ39BeHbUVp2kzEXC78b2fOzi6H23kbsS1Jpql/s1600/shelly+hickox+teapot+pop+up+card.jpg" /></a></div>
To give more interest to the background, I stamped the teabag stamp repeatedly with coordinating ink. I'm so excited to give this to my mom for her birthday. She is a tea lover and I think she'll really get a kick out of the interactivity of it. I just love the motion in this card! <br />
<br />

Hi all! It's time once again for <a href="http://karenburniston.com/" target="_blank">Karen Burniston's</a> Designer Challenge. This month, the theme is The Great Outdoors. I decided to make a vintage camping-themed Father's Day card using Karen's new Tent Pop-Up die. Isn't it absolutely adorable??<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-onDGhmxIl_hVwv-CyXXwZAXrHQQWUuv9_nLqHaa7ZOJwuy9hGgUs6LdqMYFvdMrIk_IGK9t2VNaKlTlySG38tYX4AufhijqYTkC0ibPCRxd8xa-xs_1hBbl-RlIU_3TAVHAjfK1tASXu/s1600/shelly+hickox+pop+up+father%2527s+day+card.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="768" data-original-width="576" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-onDGhmxIl_hVwv-CyXXwZAXrHQQWUuv9_nLqHaa7ZOJwuy9hGgUs6LdqMYFvdMrIk_IGK9t2VNaKlTlySG38tYX4AufhijqYTkC0ibPCRxd8xa-xs_1hBbl-RlIU_3TAVHAjfK1tASXu/s640/shelly+hickox+pop+up+father%2527s+day+card.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
The front is fairly simple, decorated with a frame that was cut with Karen's new Rectangles - Crosshatch die set. Dad was cut from plaid paper using the new Alphabet set. I added the sentiment using the Just a Note word set. The deer silhouette was cut from black kraft core'dinations. Finally, I used the new lantern charm from the Camping Charms set to add a bit of dimension.<br />
<br />

When I was at my parent's house last year, I found a really cool picture of some of my father's relatives standing in front of a car. When I was thinking about how to decorate my card, I remembered this gent and was like - that's it! Isn't he just perfect? I love that hat!<br />

What's so amazing about this card is that it folds completely flat for mailing. I'm excited that, this year, I don't have to mail my card to my dad - I get to hand deliver it!<br />

Hi all! I hope you're having a great weekend. Mine has been fabulous! I had my group of crafting buddies over on Saturday and we made these adorable <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wardian_case" target="_blank">Wardian cases</a>. I had never heard of this term until my friend, Cyndi, introduced me to them. She has several in her home and, the last time I was there, I commented that we should make a miniature version out of chipboard. After opening my big mouth, I had to figure out exactly how this would happen. Time for some engineering!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuVj9IEzu3szj5ki4lgsZ8xCPeu_RxP6mp8WFfxs3qX997HPN0CGx6ea-4GaPCi5nF15c2CCwtDJDZgzLFf0JLH7KLI3_p4zDOfcHiWt_sRns048NPn86_pTkaieDUYga5OE3sroszvn4v/s1600/shelly+hickox+chipboard+wardian+case.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="768" data-original-width="576" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuVj9IEzu3szj5ki4lgsZ8xCPeu_RxP6mp8WFfxs3qX997HPN0CGx6ea-4GaPCi5nF15c2CCwtDJDZgzLFf0JLH7KLI3_p4zDOfcHiWt_sRns048NPn86_pTkaieDUYga5OE3sroszvn4v/s1600/shelly+hickox+chipboard+wardian+case.jpg" /></a></div>
After mulling it over a bit, I hit upon the idea of using Tim Holtz's Arch Movers and Shapers die to cut the openings in the walls, which were cut from medium weight chipboard. The front piece measures 6" x 5" and the sides are 3.5" x 5". The walls are hinged together with strips of cardstock.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgt4Jo23lF2IJCX35o0DYgRc8WQMGVbXhhJTGHgF5gG2YrgR_ja-bfyGv0d-Uh5nHzgkPj4-zqlFG8dvd4tr5HfYlyyRhvTBY6tu7h5i30FCzWaRXqxMX9kdDNKnh9mKTkHceRMBWkOs1eO/s1600/shelly+hickox+paper+wardian+case+closeup.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="768" data-original-width="576" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgt4Jo23lF2IJCX35o0DYgRc8WQMGVbXhhJTGHgF5gG2YrgR_ja-bfyGv0d-Uh5nHzgkPj4-zqlFG8dvd4tr5HfYlyyRhvTBY6tu7h5i30FCzWaRXqxMX9kdDNKnh9mKTkHceRMBWkOs1eO/s1600/shelly+hickox+paper+wardian+case+closeup.jpg" /></a></div>
I wanted my case to have the look of aged zinc so I gave all the chipboard pieces a coat of charcoal paint, then dry brushed it with white. I used Tim's Picket Fence Distress Spray to add drips of white. The fleur de lis is a Movers and Shapers die from Sizzix.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-A3zNns7LggnvO8-DCVatb6hiAF8ZRGI5lJSohgb-rNG1BrRiT6EyZtCtNnDIyqQrUwAk1KD4lo7hXeBvA1NOXSLmiXrHRdQH7UheTbek3w84RZwQ8GqVL6RkfoAvPTkJY47NxYtrC6mx/s1600/IMG_7387.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="431" data-original-width="477" height="361" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-A3zNns7LggnvO8-DCVatb6hiAF8ZRGI5lJSohgb-rNG1BrRiT6EyZtCtNnDIyqQrUwAk1KD4lo7hXeBvA1NOXSLmiXrHRdQH7UheTbek3w84RZwQ8GqVL6RkfoAvPTkJY47NxYtrC6mx/s400/IMG_7387.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
The case has a chipboard floor that was covered with foam that we painted green and then hot glued moss to cover.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSKkLaI8alvOv7STXPKh2cDumKyS4_FxKkAtyHTY7TQmSwK1pfiJSWle4QxerWkP34OIYzb8dlSJuAq2h40A020Uhznmr4E8JDFhtN-p18fj8u8C9RauOL_YqZ8TkAkdz1Fr35cJW75Uz9/s1600/IMG_7388.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="452" data-original-width="474" height="381" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSKkLaI8alvOv7STXPKh2cDumKyS4_FxKkAtyHTY7TQmSwK1pfiJSWle4QxerWkP34OIYzb8dlSJuAq2h40A020Uhznmr4E8JDFhtN-p18fj8u8C9RauOL_YqZ8TkAkdz1Fr35cJW75Uz9/s400/IMG_7388.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
Cyndi (who has more dies than anyone I know!), generously cut us every type of fern you can imagine. We inked them with Distress ink to add more interest and color variation.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjabdt4CDpGDQRRtxCYHUh2R8qd58hvSuwD-OkSnsrOfBNE5v4WONgKKWT1YfNyuc1YEGcAN1Rbf1n6LwKTpaZloFJtzYhdV27k7-LAeuO9WPxQ-tMqV-eysCdoFp9kS4Eq_lKbfjfniyaB/s1600/IMG_7389.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="478" data-original-width="584" height="326" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjabdt4CDpGDQRRtxCYHUh2R8qd58hvSuwD-OkSnsrOfBNE5v4WONgKKWT1YfNyuc1YEGcAN1Rbf1n6LwKTpaZloFJtzYhdV27k7-LAeuO9WPxQ-tMqV-eysCdoFp9kS4Eq_lKbfjfniyaB/s400/IMG_7389.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
All that's left is to glue all of the ferns in place!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJWkjempRpRq7_RZY2OW22xB0KWUe8uM7oRO7gVG69OVYhAzotqBcA8NDHzWmhwhmKrqzC4UZNKMmdA2of8ZU-OGxPJ_vcr0vaobLX8WF1RDpctysJeh_aBzbcE4iVkpoFvlQuayPBGU1q/s1600/shelly+hickox+fairy+garden+box.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="768" data-original-width="576" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJWkjempRpRq7_RZY2OW22xB0KWUe8uM7oRO7gVG69OVYhAzotqBcA8NDHzWmhwhmKrqzC4UZNKMmdA2of8ZU-OGxPJ_vcr0vaobLX8WF1RDpctysJeh_aBzbcE4iVkpoFvlQuayPBGU1q/s1600/shelly+hickox+fairy+garden+box.jpg" /></a></div>
I found some really cool acrylic panels on Amazon for the windows - they're so clear it really looks like glass! The adorable little gnome is from the Dollar Tree.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMePWxnOfiU2EMvV9Uu2W8VWQVcSHnCIfTOrmS06CyZgDWF8OMKt_jEMfFMUzVzHFR2W-hUOZQ2CPnj9pQdeabCybNOlyk5sbZBNEeJUoofgntVE23efDbuGcueHkx3Ta9rOcPBj6RW8bW/s1600/shelly+hickox+tim+holtz+arch+box.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="768" data-original-width="576" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMePWxnOfiU2EMvV9Uu2W8VWQVcSHnCIfTOrmS06CyZgDWF8OMKt_jEMfFMUzVzHFR2W-hUOZQ2CPnj9pQdeabCybNOlyk5sbZBNEeJUoofgntVE23efDbuGcueHkx3Ta9rOcPBj6RW8bW/s1600/shelly+hickox+tim+holtz+arch+box.jpg" /></a></div>
I added a few fussy cut butterflies from Graphic 45's Nature Sketchbook.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg21QYKO4_2IEY0dqLRF7hEccvaXW1t5-GnKerznh8zGYTbRMNzXf7AClwn-r8RrmlDvj0ag66D3VRANGQl7pA9FoEmSUIOOPuAnYikHL3TJP3nvb9Rrm8_-Q6DcZJJwNO0DZHMLyyUH29-/s1600/shelly+hickox+paper+wardian+case.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="768" data-original-width="565" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg21QYKO4_2IEY0dqLRF7hEccvaXW1t5-GnKerznh8zGYTbRMNzXf7AClwn-r8RrmlDvj0ag66D3VRANGQl7pA9FoEmSUIOOPuAnYikHL3TJP3nvb9Rrm8_-Q6DcZJJwNO0DZHMLyyUH29-/s1600/shelly+hickox+paper+wardian+case.jpg" /></a></div>
The trim was cut with an older die of Tim's called Vintage Lace. I can't find it on the Sizzix site so it must have been discontinued. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I love peeking through the windows at my adorable little gnome! It's just about the sweetest thing ever.<br />

It's been ages since I've 'built' anything 3d and it was really a blast making these with my friends. I apologize for not sharing a better tutorial - it was totally a fly by the seat of my pants kind of thing! I hope you enjoy it as much as we did.<br />
<br />
Sizzix has a big sale going on now and both of the dies I used are included! A word of warning - it looks like they no longer sell the base tray for using Movers and Shapers by themselves. If you don't already have one, there are lots of different tutorials for using them without the tray, though, so you should be able to Google it and find the correct sandwich for your machine.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Hi all! I'm back today to share the card I created for this month's <a href="http://karenburniston.typepad.com/" target="_blank">Karen Burniston</a> Designer Challenge. For May the theme was 'Paradise'. If you know me, that can only mean one thing - my garden! I decided to create a Mother's Day card for my mom using Karen's Flower Pot Pop-Up die set and some pretty papers from an older Prima collection.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYjeli5qL9uDHDqZXLw-q4ygjAzswKRlKzvqxC2B8AAhcNdm7lLouHttOCDt6BTXLK9cg_PHY6q4mbhXmEm5_1QCHKwvQUISFxv-h57sZIuV01h71XgXFZf8FjYh0OOZ77NpYtsiLdIbpR/s1600/shelly+hickox+pop+up+flower+pot+card.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="555" data-original-width="700" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYjeli5qL9uDHDqZXLw-q4ygjAzswKRlKzvqxC2B8AAhcNdm7lLouHttOCDt6BTXLK9cg_PHY6q4mbhXmEm5_1QCHKwvQUISFxv-h57sZIuV01h71XgXFZf8FjYh0OOZ77NpYtsiLdIbpR/s1600/shelly+hickox+pop+up+flower+pot+card.jpg" /></a></div>
How amazing is that pop-up?! I used Karen's idea of making a terra cotta pot using Tim Holtz's Distress Oxide inks. I posted her video at the end of this post so you can see how it was done. I added water droplets on mine to give it a bit of an oxidized look.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXkEyU-OHYMDP0wq8kcR_PRA9hhfu-skDFg7jm1uk1lyx-ArOo7ODg-fBXiIBNIw-1D0J8gu3cifn-bt97tVOvE7e3ZEA7EIRJ_6n8RH7TQhqWH4INdkag0PRXzY8SgmW-hyB-K8ZM9Vep/s1600/shelly+hickox+flower+pot+card+closeup.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="768" data-original-width="599" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXkEyU-OHYMDP0wq8kcR_PRA9hhfu-skDFg7jm1uk1lyx-ArOo7ODg-fBXiIBNIw-1D0J8gu3cifn-bt97tVOvE7e3ZEA7EIRJ_6n8RH7TQhqWH4INdkag0PRXzY8SgmW-hyB-K8ZM9Vep/s1600/shelly+hickox+flower+pot+card+closeup.jpg" /></a></div>
I really wanted layered, colorful flowers, but I was too lazy to ink up a bunch of paper and then cut the flowers. Instead, I cut them from various papers from the Prima pad and then layered them. I cut the butterflies from glitter paper and adhered them with thin strips of acetate.<br />

I had tons of flowers left over, so I filled the front of the card with them. The woman is a photo realistic rubber stamp from <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/70872573/le-jardin-rubber-stamp-collection?ref=shop_home_active_49" target="_blank">Oxford Impressions</a> - one of my all-time faves! I stamped the image on glossy paper and colored it with distress markers.<br />

Here's a little video of the card opening. It's so amazing that the whole thing folds down so perfectly!<br />

Hi all! I'm just popping (!) in to share an idea for a quick thank you card using Karen Burniston's Fancy Label Accordion die. If you've followed me for awhile, you might remember <a href="https://shellyhickox.blogspot.com/2016/07/karen-burniston-designer-challenge-up.html" target="_blank">a post from a couple years ago</a> where I used napkins as background paper for cards. This weekend, I was trying to think up a quick thank you card that would be pretty, but be fairly quick and easy to make. I spotted my stack of napkins and my problem was solved!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiZH3OyJKkoheroHlQOj9zZ3DGWdi4BweX0xYJZ5pjqK5Pj3OqnWJWJ48j_TC284j4_MDo2IIpWpUS6emR0urQR9y-n8gQ00hMnH0qgmHXMNVs1_p-c5jcU7a9PKGgqeTnrFBEW2R0FnVU/s1600/shelly+hickox+thank+you+card.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="768" data-original-width="685" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiZH3OyJKkoheroHlQOj9zZ3DGWdi4BweX0xYJZ5pjqK5Pj3OqnWJWJ48j_TC284j4_MDo2IIpWpUS6emR0urQR9y-n8gQ00hMnH0qgmHXMNVs1_p-c5jcU7a9PKGgqeTnrFBEW2R0FnVU/s1600/shelly+hickox+thank+you+card.jpg" /></a></div>
I used Karen's Fancy Flourish Frames to decorate the front. The sentiment was cut from green cardstock using dies from Word Sets 1 and 4. I highlighted the words with a white gel pen and glitter, but it's a bit hard to see in the photo.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBLIXAJ2RXAjayrCj11y9-HpihHRKE0oUkBPsAHuBeHhZ2HumMt9Px_uc8agG_sNzkZUUAGc0s-tZNdforf7654bo9UiLCrZ-briXHFgKrINKpdaqS2yr7pvv071wtNq0Z6eSbdhMCwa0Z/s1600/shelly+hickox+napkind+card.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="768" data-original-width="787" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBLIXAJ2RXAjayrCj11y9-HpihHRKE0oUkBPsAHuBeHhZ2HumMt9Px_uc8agG_sNzkZUUAGc0s-tZNdforf7654bo9UiLCrZ-briXHFgKrINKpdaqS2yr7pvv071wtNq0Z6eSbdhMCwa0Z/s1600/shelly+hickox+napkind+card.jpg" /></a></div>
To give the card a bit more interest, I adhered another napkin to cardstock and cut out a few of the elements, like the bird and flowers, then adhered them to the card with foam to give it a 3D appearance. So pretty! <br />

Hi everyone! I mentioned in my last post that, while I was working on the <a href="https://shellyhickox.blogspot.com/2018/04/karen-burniston-designer-challenge-hip.html" target="_blank">butterfly pop-up card</a>, I had the idea to make a steampunk version...and here it is! My dad's birthday was last month but I was out of town and didn't have a chance to make a card for him. I thought the 'time flies' theme was perfect for a late birthday card!<br />
<br />
Karen Burniston's Spinner Square Pop Up die is so much fun! I combined it with another one of her die sets - the Snowman Twist Circle - to create a spinning, moving card that is a delight to open. The base of the card is gray cardstock. On the front I added a silver painted and embossed panel and added a window. Surrounding the window is a gold (heat) embossed frame that I made by nesting the two largest circles together. The 76 was cut from foil-covered cardstock and colored with alcohol inks.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6Xzrqv2G_HsQojXkzbE0D_2OlqI5BFELsathIw0-liD_SRfElE31eOGlg8P7A0ZCDe5vHUsR6psKFXVJDs57-14F95Iibbcnc0MyM4nJgkeoUQWSpRCJHwcJLImEKYOL2u0z5SQBtSUaR/s1600/shelly+hickox+pop+up+steampunk+gears+card.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="693" data-original-width="750" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6Xzrqv2G_HsQojXkzbE0D_2OlqI5BFELsathIw0-liD_SRfElE31eOGlg8P7A0ZCDe5vHUsR6psKFXVJDs57-14F95Iibbcnc0MyM4nJgkeoUQWSpRCJHwcJLImEKYOL2u0z5SQBtSUaR/s1600/shelly+hickox+pop+up+steampunk+gears+card.jpg" /></a></div>
I thought that this sitting man from Tim Holtz's Paper Dolls was perfect sitting on/in the clock. When the card is opened, the gears spin out from behind the clock. It's so cool!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYFamIsGb8H38rh72XynlcBMrHshG9qb5c01Y6mR1e6ADty3MqxxavAHl-zIk30et7xb_WtNLBTSOzDFYk2KuZCKNYVUGwXdxMFZ-lVULb-XDJIl0q679tFd2rBzRfciXG1gfKvX-lIStZ/s1600/shelly+hickox+pop+up+steampunk+birthday.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="768" data-original-width="622" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYFamIsGb8H38rh72XynlcBMrHshG9qb5c01Y6mR1e6ADty3MqxxavAHl-zIk30et7xb_WtNLBTSOzDFYk2KuZCKNYVUGwXdxMFZ-lVULb-XDJIl0q679tFd2rBzRfciXG1gfKvX-lIStZ/s1600/shelly+hickox+pop+up+steampunk+birthday.jpg" /></a></div>
I used various gears from one of Karen's discontinued collections (Clock and Gears) and some of Tim Holtz's gear dies. The were all cut from heavy cardstock and given a metal look using my <a href="https://shellyhickox.blogspot.com/2011/01/tag-tuesday-fabric-wednesday-stamper.html" target="_blank">Faux Tarnished Silver technique</a> - I haven't used that in ages!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIC_c_fKKv9VHAjme4Htc1AY6T8SZ4Ushf5vaibKLYXaDmaB7UVHaiaTGZp5d6irLTRwcriWLpbg0j7sXHzi9ui85jcFWbHlr43km2w6p4-B6K5KLJvnkEiyv5tZqM7oiHOIvZm69Irx-s/s1600/shelly+hickox+pop+up+steampunk+card.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="768" data-original-width="630" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIC_c_fKKv9VHAjme4Htc1AY6T8SZ4Ushf5vaibKLYXaDmaB7UVHaiaTGZp5d6irLTRwcriWLpbg0j7sXHzi9ui85jcFWbHlr43km2w6p4-B6K5KLJvnkEiyv5tZqM7oiHOIvZm69Irx-s/s1600/shelly+hickox+pop+up+steampunk+card.jpg" /></a></div>
Here's a closer look at the mechanism and gears. I used heavy clear plastic (cut from saved packaging) to create an arm that the gears could attach to. I had a hard time getting them to stay using any type of glue and ended up stapling them with Tim's Tiny Attacher. I decided it adds to the industrial look. ;-) The sentiment and words were computer generated and printed on kraft cardstock. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.blogger.com/video.g?token=AD6v5dyzWG3sFTpj403U8Md-RclJwITzmFRID_QjPoyL5Pm6LZ2ujM_sprCSSLwXd9sjp9MF6lAQ8IAvESaFN9TbQA' class='b-hbp-video b-uploaded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div>
Here's quick video showing the mechanism operating. There are really so many possibilities with this die!!<br />

Hi all! It's time again for <a href="http://karenburniston.typepad.com/i_am_not_lefthanded/" target="_blank">Karen Burniston's</a> Designer Challenge. This month our theme is 'Hip to be Square'. I thought it was the perfect time to use one of my favorite dies - Karen's Spinner Square Pop-Up - and got to work making a pretty botanical thank you card.<br />
<br />
The papers are all from Graphic 45's Nature Sketchbook (retired, but you might be able to find it on eBay or Etsy). This is one of my all-time favorite collections and it works so well for this card!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiszXJPrxmLoWS7omxLG4ppnSxS81ztMeIyTO3Fdo9wls0D4cEvDMnYuwjKyX7zL1jAX5TenvIj7NKgHlkJKDVS5D6LMNTMOSO8XJRQr_j-xgjhyfOFtVaZ-uc0Vn9PKuFTsLRGMV8F39pP/s1600/shelly+hickox+butterfly+pop+up+card.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="768" data-original-width="762" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiszXJPrxmLoWS7omxLG4ppnSxS81ztMeIyTO3Fdo9wls0D4cEvDMnYuwjKyX7zL1jAX5TenvIj7NKgHlkJKDVS5D6LMNTMOSO8XJRQr_j-xgjhyfOFtVaZ-uc0Vn9PKuFTsLRGMV8F39pP/s1600/shelly+hickox+butterfly+pop+up+card.jpg" /></a></div>
As the card is opened, the two butterflies on the right 'fly' out from behind the square panel. Magic! I love thinking of different things that could be animated using this die. As I'm typing and thinking, I've already decided I need to do a steampunk version with gears - how cool would that be?!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgutZd5zJl-cYQcEVCbi7HQf25XJe7pyiKM28d_qCL_wbXp3qEazFa-tnfWJkwYgb2xKKkBWob1DV3W-ieL6P8wp7gC7FJR4RXDcbcXpq-ANqdYfl7BCIaR5BFTwr99V6_PoCNz3Rp34yOX/s1600/shelly+hickox+graphic+45+pop+up+card.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="768" data-original-width="576" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgutZd5zJl-cYQcEVCbi7HQf25XJe7pyiKM28d_qCL_wbXp3qEazFa-tnfWJkwYgb2xKKkBWob1DV3W-ieL6P8wp7gC7FJR4RXDcbcXpq-ANqdYfl7BCIaR5BFTwr99V6_PoCNz3Rp34yOX/s1600/shelly+hickox+graphic+45+pop+up+card.jpg" /></a></div>
To animate the butterflies, I used the rectangle arm die from the set to cut a piece of transparency so that the mechanism would disappear and the butterflies would look like they were flying. I adhered the larger butterfly to the arm, making sure that it would be hidden when the card was closed, and then attached the smaller butterfly to it with a foam dot. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPU2KMfg5ZSDHssLx6gVKuWD8YADcyffsEYU-tbTT8WiNlYiphjMjTGweoHaNmRNd07BfgOjh9yRj2PdQrVI4PqQ-Eb-myLLTZQfnwsBobNKMSNNW7mZpF99BXL1p6S6XK-akG6N7foYEr/s1600/shelly+hickox+butterfly+pop+up.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1024" data-original-width="341" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPU2KMfg5ZSDHssLx6gVKuWD8YADcyffsEYU-tbTT8WiNlYiphjMjTGweoHaNmRNd07BfgOjh9yRj2PdQrVI4PqQ-Eb-myLLTZQfnwsBobNKMSNNW7mZpF99BXL1p6S6XK-akG6N7foYEr/s1600/shelly+hickox+butterfly+pop+up.jpg" /></a></div>
This series of photos shows the various positions of the butterflies as the card is opened. I love the magic of them floating out from behind the square panel!<br />

Hi all! Hope your week is off to a great start. Today, I'm sharing a card for the Paper Pros 'green' challenge. I was inspired to try making a Bridge Fold card after seeing the <a href="https://www.splitcoaststampers.com/resources/tutorials/bridgefoldcard/" target="_blank">tutorial on Splitcoast Stampers</a> last week. I think this is a brilliant card idea and so easy to make!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLf-w4ss_AG39GBy9XGGSJuHBzTaB3CxpthRytIoA8G9rZropPX-o3vT-NZ6jaKS3_DMZdYRocjvGLwrQ1YB8f_t17-Kbhoo8GCgMnUNVPtCmsi9AuDUysy4eMU41huUwdndWwHSmOTMGH/s1600/shelly+hickox+birthday+bridge+fold+card.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="768" data-original-width="651" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLf-w4ss_AG39GBy9XGGSJuHBzTaB3CxpthRytIoA8G9rZropPX-o3vT-NZ6jaKS3_DMZdYRocjvGLwrQ1YB8f_t17-Kbhoo8GCgMnUNVPtCmsi9AuDUysy4eMU41huUwdndWwHSmOTMGH/s1600/shelly+hickox+birthday+bridge+fold+card.jpg" /></a></div>
I started with white cardstock as my base and folded it and cut as shown in the tutorial, using the largest label die from Karen Burniston's Katherine Label Pop Up set. I cut the decorator paper (from Pebbles) using the next smallest die in the set. The fence was cut three times from white cardstock using the fence from Karen's House and Fence Pop Up set. I cut a thin strip of white cardstock and adhered the fence pieces to it to create a continuous fence panel for the front.<br />
<br />
The greetings are from a stamp set I found at the Dollar Tree. I used the circle and beaded ring dies from Karen's Snowman Twist set to cut out a circle panel and the trim. The birds and clouds are from the new Outdoor Scene set.<br />

Hi everyone! It's time again for <a href="http://karenburniston.typepad.com/" target="_blank">Karen Burniston's</a> Designer Challenge! This month our theme is Coffee and Cake. We were challenged to create a card using either Karen's Cake Pop-Up card die or her Coffee Cup Pop-Up die set. I made this card for my son's birthday last month and I've been saving it up to share for this challenge!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6EHv82OYp5sx4uVeTd_WSKAADJKy_EyI51oMGe4IyWgIL591wm3Q_XTmAGJ0zShUWovGYRdPmniYxD4akebNmPzf5JvX96hQyDX0m8qVvJkTae-i3VYWdjogOOhck-JNChsXg9Uzs9xOr/s1600/shelly+hickox+coffee+card+front.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="768" data-original-width="709" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6EHv82OYp5sx4uVeTd_WSKAADJKy_EyI51oMGe4IyWgIL591wm3Q_XTmAGJ0zShUWovGYRdPmniYxD4akebNmPzf5JvX96hQyDX0m8qVvJkTae-i3VYWdjogOOhck-JNChsXg9Uzs9xOr/s640/shelly+hickox+coffee+card+front.jpg" width="590" /></a></div>
I kept the front fairly simple, since bulky embellishments will prevent the card from sitting flat when it's opened. I used a stamp from Tim Holtz's Freshly Ground stamp set that perfectly coordinates with the die set. I stamped it on kraft cardstock and then on white. I cut the white cup out and adhered it with pop dots to give it dimension. Celebrate was cut from green cardstock using a die from Karen's Birthday greetings set.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJyS6cYAlgg-0lo3U-qEW8msQndKklng-2U-vsG1KLGt_yOeDo47JpQIBHton92Qk9zmYUXGnVOu11qRUtti5Vh7BGNvr_Kn5TMzDC9YYYuHHEu3ZUsNpypJe1V9Gk5cLicPacQ3tX43H4/s1600/shelly+hickox+coffee+cup+birthday+card2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="768" data-original-width="576" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJyS6cYAlgg-0lo3U-qEW8msQndKklng-2U-vsG1KLGt_yOeDo47JpQIBHton92Qk9zmYUXGnVOu11qRUtti5Vh7BGNvr_Kn5TMzDC9YYYuHHEu3ZUsNpypJe1V9Gk5cLicPacQ3tX43H4/s1600/shelly+hickox+coffee+cup+birthday+card2.jpg" /></a></div>
How cute is this cup?! It has tabs in the back that hold a gift card, and the cup is also double-sided with an opening at the top so you could also tuck something in there, like a tea bag or instant coffee stick. I decorated the front with dies that are included in the set, and used Karen's Numbers die set to add his age to the center of the medallion. <br />
<br />
I hope you enjoyed this masculine birthday card that also doubles as a gift! You can find the supplies I used at Karen Burniston and Simon Says Stamp via the links below.<br />

Hi everyone! I'm back today with a pretty spring project using some of my favorite dies from Karen Burniston and Tim Holtz. Sizzix is having a huge sale this weekend and this Cabinet Card die is one of my favorites. I thought I'd experiment with a new way to use it - a tent card with a window that folds flat for mailing, but expands into a 3D scene. Cool, right?<br />
<br />
I also wanted to experiment with making flowers using Distress Oxide ink and coffee filters. I used Karen Burniston's flower dies and I was absolutely thrilled with how they turned out! I took pics along the way to show how I made them (and the card). Read on to see how it all came together.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4zws0zsvOxMvhC4YJUSJ0zAPmJdTF8oZ-F53MzzaeSmdmkgcAeuxVyaj7NqgL_NMe4vtIgFiCgtJGozfqxvE71iOaPo5RjnzA6M9MkMUarqJNBlsGZCFfElmu3kceSvQZIMf3F05CoxdW/s1600/IMG_6448.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="422" data-original-width="588" height="286" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4zws0zsvOxMvhC4YJUSJ0zAPmJdTF8oZ-F53MzzaeSmdmkgcAeuxVyaj7NqgL_NMe4vtIgFiCgtJGozfqxvE71iOaPo5RjnzA6M9MkMUarqJNBlsGZCFfElmu3kceSvQZIMf3F05CoxdW/s400/IMG_6448.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
Begin by cutting the edges off of a cone-type coffee filter and separating the two pieces. Press Distress Oxide ink pad onto a nonstick craft sheet to dispense ink in a small area. Spritz the ink with water and lay the filter into it, spritzing with more water as necessary. Crumple the filter and wipe up all the ink. The filters are super absorbent and take the ink well.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3DDD0TEiJFI6pxH7U0wscZl-bcRKGmToKyFWIbGQhQ0E_6hUUDBVUvvuY4PTll3LgmTubBbcdNb2RCq6rIwPIXA6NRo6FWLRAqruL560nry7MaqA958pR4HdFBUt5-y9Xtr13qgH-1lHI/s1600/IMG_6449.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="640" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3DDD0TEiJFI6pxH7U0wscZl-bcRKGmToKyFWIbGQhQ0E_6hUUDBVUvvuY4PTll3LgmTubBbcdNb2RCq6rIwPIXA6NRo6FWLRAqruL560nry7MaqA958pR4HdFBUt5-y9Xtr13qgH-1lHI/s400/IMG_6449.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
Dry the filters with a heat gun. They'll be wrinkly, but will smooth out later. And don't worry about any texture that might be on the filter - it disappears after the flowers are cut.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhE-q8H_8_hvqryQsMkcw7K8lmvoz9MK7gB93arr22P4kOnmrdyRRnNUVLwsrtDYPnk4kJXmwj8e9Qu23Cntba0aBsYCsv9zSbWQf7vLmBGSEy8VdYdHIDWQaS44ByC3lV1EA4VtqSddL6H/s1600/IMG_6450.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="480" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhE-q8H_8_hvqryQsMkcw7K8lmvoz9MK7gB93arr22P4kOnmrdyRRnNUVLwsrtDYPnk4kJXmwj8e9Qu23Cntba0aBsYCsv9zSbWQf7vLmBGSEy8VdYdHIDWQaS44ByC3lV1EA4VtqSddL6H/s400/IMG_6450.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
Stack two filters and cut several flowers, using dies from Karen Burniston's Flowers and Bee die set.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0LKqTjZneqVnsnsVUK7p_LLt9gpcO_Ro3F8mkN7w1DOW2aiJaCPebfZP5xMCRXwgvcLJ29P6OJ7CRadBgbrVBzASYT9zjJcMGL50E54qLA6yKY08z1tURZrIiiHYAxN2MvyM3u8kDFBrO/s1600/IMG_6453.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="385" data-original-width="564" height="272" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0LKqTjZneqVnsnsVUK7p_LLt9gpcO_Ro3F8mkN7w1DOW2aiJaCPebfZP5xMCRXwgvcLJ29P6OJ7CRadBgbrVBzASYT9zjJcMGL50E54qLA6yKY08z1tURZrIiiHYAxN2MvyM3u8kDFBrO/s400/IMG_6453.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
Without separating the flowers, stack a small flower on top of a larger flower, punch hole and insert stamens (you can find a tutorial for how I made my stamens in <a href="https://shellyhickox.blogspot.com/2014/05/art-with-heart-challenge-floral-wedding.html" target="_blank">this post</a> from a few years ago). Add a dab of glue to the back and cover with tiny flower. This will keep the stamens intact and hold the flower together. When dry, separate and fluff the petals, as you see in the flower on the right.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2gmavq5QqiIaqAoqpP703YPejHgWCbU3hyphenhyphenHbC0QiF5-Wemf7kHDJPB78nMmEKt0RBIm5h6KCFJlriGGH6eSelShyphenhyphenem29TQAoEpsp9L2Nqv4eJ2GcZDo65fhij_cs4DtngS05zaTEjxKqV/s1600/IMG_6451%25281%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="640" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2gmavq5QqiIaqAoqpP703YPejHgWCbU3hyphenhyphenHbC0QiF5-Wemf7kHDJPB78nMmEKt0RBIm5h6KCFJlriGGH6eSelShyphenhyphenem29TQAoEpsp9L2Nqv4eJ2GcZDo65fhij_cs4DtngS05zaTEjxKqV/s400/IMG_6451%25281%2529.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
To create the tent card, cut a frame from a piece of heavy green cardstock using the small cabinet card die nested inside the larger one. Scrape DecoArt crackle paste over it and let dry. Meanwhile, cut a piece for the back of the card from the cabinet card die (remove the movers and shapers die). Add the decorative background piece (an ATC sized panel from Tim Holtz's Wallflower collection). Trim as needed. Cut a piece of kraft cardstock measuring 3 3/8" x 2" and score every half inch. Also cut a small piece from Kraft cardstock to use as a hinge for the top.<br />
<br />

Adhere the accordion scored piece as shown above.<br />
<br />

Adhere the paper dolls to the center accordion fold. Rub word band with white Distress crayon to highlight the words and attach to the bottom of the card. Attach the hinge at the top. Finally, add your flowers and leaves and a glittery swallow, cut from glitter paper using the bird die from Karen Burniston's Outdoor Scene set.<br />

How pretty are these flowers?! I just love the softness of the filters and the bold color from the Distress Oxide ink. And they look quite a bit like my inspiration - the forsythia bush in my yard that's blooming like crazy right now.<br />

Here you can see that this folds completely flat for mailing. How sweet would this be for a birthday card that doubles as a gift?! I can think of so many fun ways to use this die idea. Feel free to share yours in the comments!<br />

Hi everyone! I have a sweet little pop-up card to share with you today. I found this pretty paper from Authentique at Tuesday Morning last month and thought it would be perfect for this dessert-themed thank you card.<br />
<br />
The front is decorated using one of the frame dies from Karen Burniston's Katherine Label Pop Up set. The thanks die is from her Greetings set, and the flourish is from the Cupcake Pop Up set.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

So sweet for a thank you note, right?! The Cupcake Pop Up Card die set is great for lots of different card themes. The sentiment was computer-generated and trimmed to fit the bottom pop-up. On the top, I used Karen's new wavy edge die to create a rick rack border. I love that stitching!<br />

Hi everyone! I'm just popping up (!) to share a grungy steampunk birthday card I made using Karen Burniston's new Cake Pop-Up Card die. This card was so much fun to make! I started with a background that was created with Ranger's Distress Oxide inks. The metal looking strips at the top and bottom are kraft cardstock that I painted with Brushed Pewter Distress paint. I die cut the word celebrate out of a scrap of painted cardstock and adhered it to one of the strips, then added rivets that were made with the flower center die from Karen's Flower and Bee die set. I painted over everything with black Distress paint, then wiped it off, giving it an aged appearance.<br />
<br />
The cake layer were all created with different techniques. The bottom layer is plain white cardstock that I gave a wood appearance to by drawing lines with a brown marker. I die cut the paper, then added gold rub ons and a coating of glossy accents. The middle layer is more painted cardstock and faux rivets. The top layer was painted with bronze Distress paint and stamped and embossed with a gear stamp. On the top I added a mini gear.<br />
<br />
I adhered just the bottom and sides of the metallic strip so that I could insert a stamped tag and a gift card.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRQDllzq02rhe9F8HsrZxyovpOdVzRBKp0QecROOVQXePCcbkjCYRwf0-YpTaKk4xHRDDCMrd4Y91q59WmR83rc8TxXqcClJ6LzxhwGlencQfXCBOb5MOL0V9Hk32goTVFpu6oM2D5W0W5/s1600/shelly+hickox+steampunk+birthday+pop+up.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="768" data-original-width="608" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRQDllzq02rhe9F8HsrZxyovpOdVzRBKp0QecROOVQXePCcbkjCYRwf0-YpTaKk4xHRDDCMrd4Y91q59WmR83rc8TxXqcClJ6LzxhwGlencQfXCBOb5MOL0V9Hk32goTVFpu6oM2D5W0W5/s1600/shelly+hickox+steampunk+birthday+pop+up.jpg" /></a></div>
On the front, I added another wood-looking panel created from white cardstock and markers. I cut a frame out using one of the square frame dies from Karen's Square Pop Up set, then added a stamped panel behind. The 37 was cut from silver painted cardstock using her new numbers dies.<br />
<br />

Hi all! It's time again for <a href="http://karenburniston.typepad.com/" target="_blank">Karen Burniston's</a> Designer Challenge. For February, the designers are highlighting her new Castle Pop-Up die - another one of my faves from the <a href="http://shrsl.com/rr35" target="_blank">Winter 2018 release</a>! This die is incredibly versatile. It can be a medieval castle, a sandcastle, a sweet princess castle, and anything else your creative mind can think up! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqBXvYuFzwgawga1Qd5wHxRbJ1X7wckHWa3dke3113RVcoCxRgOUGRNefMWrR2SdwGaXo4za7XWHEAZ41A0CNSGHmKG4CrkacWIVEPfjjfzoTg6gGpZYmL3fwPOp0VT9MwfXPlBHxYJ7pp/s1600/shelly+hickox+castle+card+front.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="768" data-original-width="576" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqBXvYuFzwgawga1Qd5wHxRbJ1X7wckHWa3dke3113RVcoCxRgOUGRNefMWrR2SdwGaXo4za7XWHEAZ41A0CNSGHmKG4CrkacWIVEPfjjfzoTg6gGpZYmL3fwPOp0VT9MwfXPlBHxYJ7pp/s1600/shelly+hickox+castle+card+front.jpg" /></a></div>
I decided I would go the medieval route and started by decorating the front with stamps from Oxford Impressions' Castle Keep stamp set. The papers are all from My Mind's Eye. The little flowers were cut with dies from Karen's Flowers and Bee die set.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4RpJOvvvzexLsuRMLnGc19QfivS8KjXeDbAsu3AuGea2NKoH3hG4QEZAWxXUBzb1-up7Kg5KPcRLBlzekbnmEUpxAUgBWDalOYkBu4crXezkavZvs3x06lkNlYCP-fEEqYcCE-Rd-jvWL/s1600/shelly+hickox+castle+pop+up.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="768" data-original-width="607" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4RpJOvvvzexLsuRMLnGc19QfivS8KjXeDbAsu3AuGea2NKoH3hG4QEZAWxXUBzb1-up7Kg5KPcRLBlzekbnmEUpxAUgBWDalOYkBu4crXezkavZvs3x06lkNlYCP-fEEqYcCE-Rd-jvWL/s1600/shelly+hickox+castle+pop+up.jpg" /></a></div>
When the card is opened, the 3D castle expands - incredible! Look at those turrets! And the little drawbridge! The die pieces have the brick/stone texture built in, so I used my Sizzix impressions pad to emboss the panels, then sponged them with ink to highlight the texture. So cool! To give it even more dimension, I glued little bits of moss to the turrets and wall, making it look like ivy was climbing up. To create a greeting, I die cut a banner using the word inset (both from the new Royalty Word Set), then heat embossed the word 'Queen'.<br />
<br />
I think this would be the perfect birthday card for a special friend who deserves to be called 'Queen for a Day'!<br />
<br />

Hi all! I chose an older collection from Graphic 45 for this card. I have been hoarding this paper and it's absolutely perfect for this pop-up die. I kept the front fairly simple since I didn't want any bulk to keep the card from lying flat when opened. I added a decorative clip, which actually serves a dual purpose. On the front it's a pretty embellishment...<br />

And on the inside it helps to hold the card open for display. And seriously, who wouldn't want to display this?! The Cake Pop-Up die looks so complicated, but is one of the easiest of Karen's dies to assemble (you can find her assembly video <a href="http://karenburniston.typepad.com/i_am_not_lefthanded/2018/01/winter-2018-cake-pop-up-die-assembly-video.html" target="_blank">here</a>). I cut each tier with a different paper to give it more interest. The top tier has a little tab so that you can glue candles, etc onto the top. Here, I added fussy cut flowers and a banner for maximum 'wow' factor. I added a few more fussy cut details to the back of the cake, making sure that it could still move freely when opening and closing.<br />
<br />
Great news! Karen's new collection is shipping tomorrow, February 1st! You can shop for this die and all the other incredible dies from the release via the links below. Have fun!<br />
