I must confess, I am just a bit (a lot!) in love with my ornament today. I used Karen Burniston's Poppy the Owl die to recreate an ornament I'd seen while I was out shopping. He's a bit smaller than the inspiration owls, but just as cute!
Here are the chubby little owls that inspired my ornament frenzy! I have no idea why they have pom poms on their feather points, but I was like, why not? :) Read on to see how I put mine together:
Sandwich the two body pieces together and top stitch all around the top and sides, leaving the bottom open. Stuff the body and top stitch the bottom closed.
To finish your owl, stitch black buttons to the burlap eyes and glue to the body. Glue the wings down as well. Die cut the beak from felt using the detail die and adhere. Glue two pom poms to the points as shown. Finally, stitch on a jute hanger.
So darn cute! If you want to keep the fraying from getting out of hand, you can use a product like Fray-Check, or do what I did - dab a bit of glue on the edges. The burlap is a little tricky so I do recommend using a spot of glue to keep it from completely unraveling. If you aren't a seamstress, or don't want to drag out your sewing machine, you could definitely just glue the whole thing together with fabric glue. Easy peasy!
I hope you enjoyed my wee owl ornament. All the supplies I used can be found at Elizabeth Craft Designs (Poppy die) and Inspiration Emporium. Remember to use my coupon code - stamptramp - at IE to save 10% on your order.
