I absolutely loved
Tim Holtz' November tag with all the gorgeous fall colors, but when I sat down to make mine, I couldn't resist the allure of glitter and pretty winter stamps! Also, I'm hopelessly addicted to the idea-ology Woodlands trees and wreaths and had to find an excuse to use one. Here, I've covered one of the wreaths with Rock Candy dry glitter and then attached it to the top of the tag with a Wire Pin (a cool idea I borrowed from Tim's idea-ology make 'n take at CHA).
The deer was stamped with embossing ink, covered with Ranger's clear embossing powder, and embossed. I initially stamped my reindeer on a manila tag, but didn't care for the yellowish tint with the cooler colors. That's why Tim's Tag and Bookplates die is so handy! I used it to cut a tag from white cardstock - it gave me just the look I wanted. Instead of directly applying the Distress stains to my tag like Tim did, I puddled them on my non-stick craft sheet and then drug my tag through them. After the stain was dry, I ironed off the embossing to reveal the pretty white deer. I love that technique! Make sure you check out
Tim's post for the full instructions.
I inked the 'Believe' word from the Seasonal Silhouettes background with embossing ink, stamped it, embossed it with Ranger's Sticky Embossing Powder, and then covered it with glitter. I absolutely love being able to apply glitter to such a detailed image! On the bottom of the tag, I replaced the burlap Tim used with a length of tulle and added holly leaves cut using the Sizzix Festive Greenery die. I also used the Sticky Embossing Powder on the edges of the leaves to apply glitter.

ReplyDeleteThis is so lovely to look at!Think I have everything I need to make this one and the perfect person to give it to!
ReplyDeleteHi Shelly -- thanks for another show-stopper!!! Hope you don't mind if I ask you a question about it? How did you keep your beautiful white Bambi (!) so "clean"? Did you mask him when you dragged your tag through your puddle, or did you stick him on (if he is stamped on very light-weight paper)? Don't think he is stuck down, so am wondering how you made such an accurate mask. The result is beautiful - so pure and peaceful.
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving!!!
Greetings from France - Sally xo
Aaaaaah -- just went to Tim's tag to have a second look at that!!! Guess what you did was a clear emboss on the bambi, which created a great resist for the puddle-dragging! Hope my detective work is correct!!!

You got it right, Sally! I'll update my post to explain that part. I was in a hurry yesterday and wasn't really clear. Thanks for your kind words! :-)

Your tag is beautiful, Shelly! I love that you chose white cardstock for your base to keep everything so crisp and clean looking. Your background turned out fabulous! I always love seeing your projects, thanks so much for sharing!

ReplyDeleteSo pretty! Did you stamp your reindeer with snow cap paint dabber or with a white stamp ink? It's just all so lovely.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Barbara! I stamped it with embossing ink and then clear embossed. After I added the stain, I ironed off the embossed image. Check out Tim's blog for the full tutorial: http://timholtz.com/12-tags-of-2012-november/

This tag is great! I also like the fact that you started with a white tag as it is much better to have a "snowy" looking deer:)
ReplyDeleteI need to try the iron embossing technique one of these days...I like the way it turns out.
