Pop 'N Cuts Halloween Card

I'm so excited to share this with you - Inspiration Emporium has one of the new Pop 'N Cuts dies in stock!! These are SO hot right now that it's getting really hard to find them. If you want to get in on the fun, I suggest you hustle over to IE and get yourself one of these dies!

Obviously, I'm just a little excited about the PNC dies. I think they take card-making to a whole new level. I get a little bored with cards and tend to not make them much any more. Pop 'N Cuts has totally changed that! I made this card for the wonderful Linda Ledbetter's Compendium of Curiosities challenge. This week we're trying Tim Holtz's awesome  Whitewash Stamping technique. It's one I haven't had a chance to try until now and the effect is really cool.

In addition to the CC2C challenge, this week the challenge over at the Simon Says blog is 'favorite technique'. Since first seeing the Sizzix Cargo Stencil die set, I knew I wanted to try it with my Faux Porcelain technique. I love how it turned out! After I cut the numbers out of the Vintage Cabinet Card die, I painted them using a Pitch Black Dabber. When the Distress Crackle paint had dried on the cabinet card, I reinserted the numbers and covered the whole thing with two coats of UTEE.

With such a huge area to fill, I was at a bit of a loss as to what to do with this piece. I came very close to just throwing in the towel on the whole card. Then, I remembered this raven stamp from Oxford Impressions' Wicked stamp collection. It was the perfect size for my plaque! I stamped it on a piece of chipboard with my Pitch Black Dabber and cut it out. His beak is holding a Halloween Muse Token that's tied with the new idea-ology Paper String.

Ah...this is the fun part! Just like I did with my anniversary card, I cut this card using just the insert die and my Movers and Shapers Base Tray. It's an easy way to get started with Pop 'N Cuts if you can't find the starter die set. In a recent video tutorial on the Sizzix blog, Karen made the cutest card using her Sizzlits Flagpole die. I decided to make a little banner using her technique. I love the added dimension it gives to the card. I used the new Brushed Pewter Distress Stain to color the poles and then made the banner using Karen's die, plus Tim's Alphabetical die. It's suspended with Tim's new Striped Paper String.

The skull was a little experiment I had sitting on my table. I stamped it (from the new Stampers Anonymous Mini Halloween 3 set) five times on white cardstock, cut them out, folded them in half, and glued them end to end. I was going for a honeycomb look, but it was more like a lot of skeleton eyes looking me! It worked ok for this though, and I kind of like the look of it.

Here's a good view of the Whitewash Stamping. I used the large spiderweb from the Halloween Cutouts stamp set for the technique. It turned out so well!

If you'd like to purchase any of the supplies I used, they're available from Inspiration Emporium via the links below. Don't forget, you can use my coupon code - stamptramp - to save 10% off your order!

Thanks so much to the Funkie Junkie for sponsoring this week's Compendium Challenge! :)

  4. Robin, the Pop 'N Cuts die set comes as an insert and a base die. There are other PNC inserts you can buy to change the look of the pop-up inside. Some people are having a hard time finding the set, but you can use the inserts alone, you just need to use the Sizzix Base Tray. If you follow the link in my post to Karen's card, at the end of her post she has a video showing what I'm talking about. I hope that helps!
