Woodland Cloche Ornaments

Hi all! I hope you've all had a wonderful holiday! Both my daughter and my son and his fiance got to be home for Christmas this year, so I was a very happy mom! My son is in the Air Force and this is the first time he's been home for the holidays since he joined almost six years ago. Any of you with family members in the military know what a treat it is to have them home!

I wanted to share this project with you before Christmas, but with everything going on, I just didn't have time. Each year my friends and I have an ornament exchange and this is what I came up with this year. Surprise! The plastic wineglass makes another appearance - this time in a more rustic woodland setting.

I started by gluing half a styrofoam ball to a wood disk, then covering it with moss. I used my thumb to make depressions where I wanted trees and then glued those down using a hot glue gun. I added a small plastic deer (found in the miniatures sections at Hobby Lobby) and a couple of foam mushrooms. Love those little guys!

The dome is a plastic wineglass. I cut the stem down a bit with a hacksaw and then glued an acorn cap over it. I dressed it up with a bit of jute twine and one of Tim Holtz's adorable pine cone charms. To finish the ornament, I glued the glass over the scene using Beacon's Quick Grip glue, then added Tim's Pine Twine around the base to cover the edge. I fashioned a hanger out of copper wire and I was done!

I found the wine glasses at The Dollar Tree, but I've linked to some below that you can get at Amazon. I'm not sure if they are exactly the same, but they look like they should be. Karen Burniston Designer Challenge - Party Animals

Hi all! Today I'm sharing a quick and easy project for the final Karen Burniston Designer Challenge of 2016. Our theme was 'party animals' and we were to use any of the character dies in a celebration theme. I used the challenge as an excuse to make some cute planner clips - I am celebrating getting organized in the coming year and starting a cute new planner is part of that plan!

When Karen shared the 'woodland' version of Dutch the Fox and Honey the Bear, I fell in love and thought they would be perfect for my clips. I've posted the video below if you'd like to try it yourself. I created mine pretty much like Karen's, other than using Ranger's Enamel Accents for the eye highlights. The clips are the larger ones you can find at the dollar store. After I'd created my woodland creatures, I just glued them to the clips, and covered the exposed clip on the back with a strip of matching paper to keep it tidy looking.

Karen Burniston Designer Challenge

Hi all! Today I'm sharing a glittery holiday decor piece I created for December's Karen Burniston Designer Challenge. This month our theme is 'All I Want for Christmas'. We were challenged to create something using our favorite die - the one we'd want to receive if we didn't already own it. I had a really hard time choosing a favorite, but the new Iron Fence Pop Up is such an amazing die, I would definitely run out and buy it. There are so many ways you can use it!

You might remember back in September I shared a Halloween diorama that was inspired by my teammate, Raquel Mason. I knew while I was making it that I wanted to try a Christmas version, and this was the perfect excuse to make one. I needed something for the centerpiece and decided to create a sparkly little house, adapting Karen's Holiday House slightly to create a 3D version (you might remember a more rustic house I made a couple years ago with the same die). I took a few photos along the way to show you how it came together.

To make the house 3D, and also change the direction of the roof line, we'll actually be using the house die to make the sides, instead of the front. Cut the pieces as shown above. The long strip is used to give the vestibule sides, creating a dimensional front.

Cover white cardstock with adhesive and die cut three fences. Remove adhesive and cover with glitter.

Adhere fence pieces to a disk of styrofoam (I found a pack of two at my Dollar Tree).

To create the trees, die cut mint cardstock using one of the tree dies from the Evergreen Pivot Card die set (another one of my faves). Fold each tree in half and adhere to each other, back to back. I used four per tree. Cover with glitter and insert a toothpick.

After house is assembled, cover with glitter. Tie a length of tinsel twine around it and add a Christmas Typed Token. Tie a bit of pink twine around a little deer and adhere to disk. The snow is a combination of polyester batting and Martha Stewart's snow glitter.

I didn't glue my house down - I wanted to be able to add a battery-operated tea light so it would glow at night. So pretty! If you wanted it to be more stable, you could glue it down and cut a hole in the back and add a candle that way.

I added a bit more batting in the chimney as a final little touch. I just love the wispy look of it. I hope you enjoyed my little glittery house - I had so much fun making it! And I am so thrilled with how it turned out. I hope you're inspired to make one of your own.

Simple Felt Leaf Wreath

Hi all! I have a quick and easy holiday project to share with you today. I am a huge fan of Sweet Paul Magazine - if you've never seen it, you're really missing out! - and when I saw this tutorial for an adorable felt woodland wreath, I immediately ordered the materials to make one of my own. I mean, how cute are those tiny mushrooms?!

I had a feeling that one of the leaves on Eileen Hull's Spring Leaves die would be the perfect size for this and I was right! I love the extra detail the serrated edges give. And the die makes cutting the leaves from thick felt a breeze.

Since I didn't have a wreath form on hand, I figured I could just whip one up with my Twist and Style tool! I cut a piece of 19 gauge wire about 60" long and folded it in half. I used the tool to twist it, making a stronger structure to adhere my leaves to. I cut out about 40 leaves from heavy weight felt (bought at Hobby Lobby) and hot glued them to the wire ring.

When all the leaves were in place, I tucked the mushrooms into the leaves in singles and groups of two. Aren't they just the sweetest? Thanks so much to Sweet Paul for sharing this tutorial.
