Die Cut Burlap USA Banner

Hi all! I'm so excited to be a part of the Sizzix Stars and Stripes blog hop today. We are celebrating all things red, white, and blue and giving away some amazing prizes. If you haven't already, please visit the Sizzix blog for all the details!

The project I'm sharing today is a quick and easy banner that is perfect for decorating your house for Independence Day. I love celebrating the 4th of July and recognizing the SACRIFICE of those who fought so bravely for our country's freedom!

I hope you're inspired to create a patriotic banner for your own holiday decorating. You could also easily turn this into a birthday, Halloween, or other holiday-themed banner just by changing the word and colors. Here is a quick tutorial to show you how easily it all goes together.

Step One:  Cut five panels from burlap using the largest of the Pennant Banner Framelits dies. Using the next size smaller, cut five pieces of coordinating paper.
Step Two: Sand the edges of the paper and stitch onto the burlap pennant, using a zigzag stitch. Repeat for all five pieces.
Step Three: Die cut three rosettes from coordinating paper using the larger of the rosettes on the Mini Rosette Die. Lightly sand edges and assemble. Cut two small stars from glitter paper using the Star Bright die. Fold as shown. Adhere the stars and rosettes to the panels with hot glue.

To complete the banner, cut chipboard letters using the Word Play die. Paint with Ranger Picket Fence Distress crackle paint and let dry. When completely dry and crackled, sponge lightly wth Brushed Corduroy Distress ink and adhere to the center of the rosettes. Finally, hot glue the pennants to a length of rick rack to create the banner.

    Shelly: The pennants are very reminiscent of celebrations on July 4th. I love how you used the burlap and the "canvas" paper. (I actually thought it WAS canvas). Gives the pennant banners that all-American look. The rosettes and glitter star just tops everything off! Loving it! Thank you and enjoy the holiday.

      No, it's not you! It was really hard to see with the color of my font and the background. I changed it a bit so it shows up better. For anyone who's wondering, the word is 'sacrifice'. Thanks for your comment, Anne!
