After seeing this tutorial on Splitcoast Stampers, and making a couple of cards from it, I was inspired to try making a pop-up box card using one of Eileen Hull's box dies. I wasn't sure if it would work, but it totally does! And how pretty is that paper created using Tim Holtz's Distress Paint Marbling technique? That's the featured technique over at Linda's new Compendium of Curiosities challenge - make sure you check out all the fantastic submissions.
Here is the card folded flat and ready to mail. The trick is removing the bottom flap, which allows the box to collapse. Below is a quick tutorial if you'd like to try one yourself!
Begin by created a marbled background on white cardstock using Tim Holtz's Distress Paint Marbling technique. Adhere the paper to medium weight chipboard and cut two box panels using Eileen Hull's Square Box die. Remove the third section and flap from one of the panels. Adhere Tissue Wrap to the reverse side and assemble box, leaving the top lid section unfolded, and making sure the bottom is open.
Adhere strips of cardstock as shown. Die cut various shapes from cardstock and glitter paper and adhere to strips, along with stamped images.
Speaking of flowers, there is also a new Art with Heart challenge up on Eileen Hull's blog. Make sure you check out what the DT has created for the May Flowers theme. You will be blown away!
You can find most of the supplies I used at Inspiration Emporium via the links below. The rick rack die and ruffle can be found at Sizzix, and the chipboard is available on Amazon (for a great price!). Remember, you can use my coupon code - stamptramp - at Inspiration Emporium to save 10% on your order.
Thanks so much for stopping by today - have a great week!
Gorgeous Shelly, love the marbling and the AO images. Gorgeous design. Tracy x

ReplyDeleteShelly- I have been playing with the same idea but never thought to chop off the square. ReplyDeleteShelly, I'm so glad you did this for the Eileen Hull dies! I've loved what you did in the past with the pop up instructions from the Splitcoast site and have been trying to get it to work out for Eileen's dies to no avail. You've saved me quite a bit of aggravation with your excellent tutorial. Thank you VERY much.

Hello Shelly,
ReplyDeleteI saw the technique of the popup card too and it's on my to do list ( as I'm an addict to all kind of pop ups...),but you went a step beyond again !
It's great that you combined both techniques/materials to make this pop up block.
I've got still a lot of schoolwork for my class ( motherdaypresents..)but I'm looking forward for some me-creating-time and I think I add your project on my want-to-create list .
Nice decorative techniques you used, but I think the texttissuepaper really stands out as a background.
thanks for inspiring again !
greetings from belgium
