Congrats, Debbie! And thanks to all of you for your wonderful comments! I'm so happy to see that you are all as excited about Karen's new collection as I am. :-)
Now, onto a project I finished up yesterday, just in time to give it to my sweet husband for Father's Day.
When I first browsed through the Technique Junkie Great Gifts CD, the Toolbox project caught my eye immediately. I filed it away, knowing the perfect time would come to make one. Father's Day just happened to be the perfect occasion! It's hard to believe that this is created using nothing more than a couple sheets of cardstock and adhesive foil sheets. Since my husband works in the airline industry, I thought I'd make this look a bit aviation-y by using Tim Holtz' Riveted Metal Texture Fade to emboss the foil. I aged it by applying Black Soot Distress paint and then wiping it off.
On the bottom I added a faux ruler that I had left over from the project I made for my dad (make sure you check that tutorial out here, if you missed it!). The fastener was created with an idea-ology Label Pull - 'stuff' is spelled out with Tim's Label Letters. I used the Block Talk alpha die from Sizzix to cut his initials from heavy chipboard. I colored them with Brushed Corduroy and Gathered Twigs Distress inks and sealed them with Glossy Accents. Finally, I cut a handle from the same chipboard, colored it the same way and attached it with Finnabair's new Mechanical Brads from Prima.
If you'd like to purchase the Great Gifts CD, it is just $14.95 plus postage. A full list of what is on the CD - plus photos of each project - is available here: Great Gifts CD.
