Karen Burniston Designer Challenge - Stage It Stencils

Hi all! It's time again for another Karen Burniston Designer Challenge. This month, we're focusing on Karen's new Stage it Stencils. I would love to say I had thought up an idea ahead of time, but the truth is I was rummaging around my studio, trying to get my table cleared off to work, when I came across this notebook from the dollar store. I had bought it a few months ago with the idea that I'd alter it and was like, ah ha! This will do quite nicely. I grabbed a piece of watercolor paper, a couple of my new Stage it stencils, some texture paste, and got to work.

First, I applied Ranger's Texture Paste to a sheet of watercolor paper using the Petite Flourish Stage it stencil.

After the texture paste dried, I spritzed the paper with various colors of Ranger's Distress Spray Stain.

While the stained panel was drying, I prepped my notebook by adding swipes of white paint and a few polka dots using just part of Karen's Blossom Layering stencil. I also added a few torn strips of vintage French book pages.

I wanted the stenciling to stand out more, so I highlighted it with white paint, which I also added along the edges of the panel. After I adhered the panel to the front of the notebook, I added a length of lace trim, a strip of gems, and a few paper flowers. Tip - I found the gems in a roll at the Dollar Tree. You can cut them apart to use as many or as few as you'd like. It's a great deal for a buck!

To give the panel a focal point, I cut an Eiffel Tower from Ranger's Sticky Back Canvas using Karen's Eiffel Tower Pop Stand die. The sentiment is from Karen's new Steampunk clear stamp set and was stamped onto a tag that was cut with one of the dies from the Tags Pivot set. The glittery key is one of the new charm dies from the new Steampunk Charms die set. So cute! Finally, I added a few strips of tissue tape and a few more swipes of paint and I was done!

The supplies I used can be found at Elizabeth Craft Designs and Simon Says Stamp via the links below.

Thanks so much for stopping by today! I hope you enjoyed my take on Karen's new Stage it Stencils. Be sure and check her blog on Wednesday for loads of inspiration from the DC team as well as a new video from Karen.

Pop it Ups Mother's Day Bendi Card

Hi all! Hope your weekend is off to a great start! Today I'm sharing the card I made my mom for Mother's Day this year. I've been wanting to try a bendi card for ages and this seemed like the perfect occasion for one.

My friends and I got together a few weekends ago and figured out the basic structure of a bendi card. They are ridiculously easy! After cutting the pieces, I used one of the dies from Karen's Agatha Edges set to cut a decorative edge along the top. After cutting the flaps, I scored the edges and attached them to the card. Then the fun could begin - fussy cutting all those pretty bits and pieces from Graphic 45's Botanical Tea paper and decorating with Karen Burniston's amazing dies!

On the inside of the card, I added a tree and flowers cut using Karen's All Seasons Tree die set. The Fence from her Pop Stand set is perfect on the front of the card. I just love this die! I added tufts of grass cut using one of the accessory dies included in the set, and lots of pretty flowers and butterflies, and my card was done!

Did you know Elizabeth Craft Designs is celebrating National Scrapbook Day by offering free shipping this weekend?! Now through Monday US orders will ship for free - what a great deal! Simon Says Stamp is also offering a fantastic deal this weekend. $25 off your order of $100 or more when you use the code MOMSROCK - that is an incredible deal! You can find links to the products I used from both ECD and SSS via the links below.

Have a great weekend and Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there!

Eileen Hull Paper Flower Party!

Hi all! This month, the Eileen Hull Inspiration Team is celebrating the release of Eileen's new Sizzix dies. I have a couple projects I created using them to share with you today.

First up is this adorable hinged box created with Eileen's Cantilevered Sewing Box die. I used Graphic 45's Gilded Lily paper to decorate the box and added a shabby chic flower created with the new Romance Flower die.

I love this scrunchy, rumpled flower. I made a quick tutorial to show you how I did it.

Begin by die cutting the flower from white cardstock. Ink with Antique Linen Distress ink and stamp with a script stamp using the same ink.

Next, spray the layers heavily with Perfect Pearl Mist - really get the paper saturated!

Using a pointed object, like this Sharpie pen, center one layer and scrunch the paper down as shown. Repeat with each layer and let dry.

Unfold the layers and secure them together with one of Tim Holtz's new diamond brads.

This little flower-topped sewing box would make a perfect Mother's Day gift!

The other piece I created using the new dies is this Flower Pocket candy box. Again, I used the pretty Gilded Lily papers, adding a bit of trim and some fussy cut pieces. I can think of so many ways to use this die! I'm already picturing little May Day baskets.

The supplies I used can be found at Sizzix, Simon Says Stamp, and Amazon via the links below. Be sure and check your local stores for Eileen's new release in May!

Thanks so much for stopping by today - have a great week!

Karen Burniston Designer Challenge - The Great Outdoors

Hi all! It's time once again for Karen Burniston's Designer Challenge. This month, our theme is The Great Outdoors. I was having a horrible time coming up with an idea, and was spending my time procrastinating in the garden. After taking some pics of my flower beds an idea occurred to me - why not combine my two favorite things, gardening and paper crafting, into a card? I remembered the amazing card that my teammate, Karen Aiken, had made last year using a photograph and decided to use that idea as my inspiration.

Last summer, my husband and I put in this cobblestone walkway, and I'd spent the weekend cleaning it off and planting my containers. It ended up being the perfect spot for a photo. I rearranged the pots to allow for the chair cut out, then took a picture with my phone. After I printed it on photo paper, I trimmed it, then cut out the Pop it Ups Adirondack Chair die.

I cut the chair again, this time from Elizabeth Craft Designs' Soft Finish cardstock. I trimmed out the chair and adhered it to the photo image chair.

To make the scene even more realistic, I printed the photo once more and cut out the area behind the chair. I lined it up (or tried to!) and adhered it to the card. If you look closely, you'll see I also cut out a few of the elements like the watering can and random stones and popped them up using foam dots. It really gives the scene a cool 3D look!

Finally, I added a white backing card and stamped a sentiment using one of my favorite stamps from Karen's Just a Note stamp set. I'm thrilled with how this turned out and can't wait to experiment with using photos in my cards even more. Thanks so much to Karen Aiken for this wonderful idea!

You can find the supplies I used at Elizabeth Craft Designs, Simon Says Stamp, and Amazon via the links below.

Be sure and check out Karen's blog tomorrow for more outdoorsy inspiration from the team.

Now back to the garden - those butterflies need me! :)
