12 Tags of 2012 - Believe

I absolutely loved Tim Holtz' November tag with all the gorgeous fall colors, but when I sat down to make mine, I couldn't resist the allure of glitter and pretty winter stamps! Also, I'm hopelessly addicted to the idea-ology Woodlands trees and wreaths and had to find an excuse to use one. Here, I've covered one of the wreaths with Rock Candy dry glitter and then attached it to the top of the tag with a Wire Pin (a cool idea I borrowed from Tim's idea-ology make 'n take at CHA).

The deer was stamped with embossing ink, covered with Ranger's clear embossing powder, and embossed. I initially stamped my reindeer on a manila tag, but didn't care for the yellowish tint with the cooler colors. That's why Tim's Tag and Bookplates die is so handy! I used it to cut a tag from white cardstock - it gave me just the look I wanted. Instead of directly applying the Distress stains to my tag like Tim did, I puddled them on my non-stick craft sheet and then drug my tag through them. After the stain was dry, I ironed off the embossing to reveal the pretty white deer. I love that technique! Make sure you check out Tim's post for the full instructions.

I inked the 'Believe' word from the Seasonal Silhouettes background with embossing ink, stamped it, embossed it with Ranger's Sticky Embossing Powder, and then covered it with glitter. I absolutely love being able to apply glitter to such a detailed image! On the bottom of the tag, I replaced the burlap Tim used with a length of tulle and added holly leaves cut using the Sizzix Festive Greenery die. I also used the Sticky Embossing Powder on the edges of the leaves to apply glitter.

This month, the Inspiration Emporium design team is challenging you to express your gratitude by making something special for your Thanksgiving table. I decided to combine the IE theme with this week's Compendium of Curiosities challenge - Reflections Stamping - and came up with this sparkly autumn silverware holder.

I also took the opportunity to try one of the new products from Ranger - Sticky Embossing Powder. I love the idea of being able to use glitter with my stamps, and this is the perfect adhesive for that! Here's a quick little tutorial:

Begin by die cutting a piece of kraft paper using the Tim Holtz Alterations In the Bag die. I used a grocery sack for my paper - it's the perfect weight, and free!

I used Vintage Photo Distress ink for my Reflections technique. Apparently, my ink pad was full of goobers and they transferred to the folder and onto my bag. I kind of liked the splotches, so I left it. I hate wasting a perfectly embossed piece of paper! :)

When you emboss the bag, some of the score lines will be a bit lost, but it's easy to figure out where the creases should be. After embossing, ink over the design to highlight it.

Stamp oak leaf onto center of bag using embossing ink. Cover with Ranger Sticky embossing powder and tap off excess. Melt powder using your heat tool. Make sure your glitter is close by and ready to use!

Immediately cover melted powder with glitter. I used my finger to press the glitter down a bit, just to make sure it was embedded.

When it's cooled, tap off excess. To make sure it's well-adhered, briefly heat it with the heat tool once more. That will ensure that the glitter stays put. Assemble bag and fill as desired.

How pretty is that glittered leaf?! I think that Sticky Embossing Powder will have a permanent place on my desk for sure - I can't wait to try it with more stamps.

New Tutorial For Ranger!

Happy Friday, everyone! I am so excited to share this project with you - it's a card I made for Ranger using lots of my favorite products and it's featured on their site right now. Such an honor! You can read the full tutorial here.

When I was creating my card, I knew I had to include some of my pearl acorns! I love using Adirondack alcohol ink to dye them. Such a fun little embellishment!
