World Card Making Day - Frightful!

I was totally going to stay out of the studio today and do some chores instead. But how can I NOT make a card on World Card Making Day? It would be a stamping sin for sure. Plus, I just got a bunch of new goodies from Inspiration Emporium and really wanted to play with them!

The other thing I wanted to play with was a new technique from the latest Technique Junkie Newsletter called Layered Goosebumps (how appropriate for a Halloween card!). I've had a bottle of it for awhile and was excited to dust it off and use it. I love the splattered, faded look it gives the card.

I also decided to play around with another one of my favorite things - Sizzix Embossing Diffusers. I used the oval one on the front so that I could stamp the large skull in the center of the embossing. I love the effect!
This week, the Compendium of Curiosities challenge is Tim Holtz' Alcohol Ink Resist. I went very plain with mine and just used Pitch Black ink on a Fragment Charm. I love the effect of the background through the charm - it looks like a spotted spider!

Here is my favorite thing on the whole card! I just bought a can of Krylon's Looking Glass spray paint at Hobby Lobby last week, planning to do the faux mercury glass technique I've been seeing on Pinterest. While I was working on my card, I first used alcohol ink to tint the inside the idea-ology Corked Vial. It looked good, but kind of blah. I decided to try blasting the inside with the spray. Oh my!! It was amazing! It totally ate away the ink, but after seeing how fantastic the silver looked, I didn't care one bit! After it dried, I added a label from Stampers Anonymous' Mini Halloween 3 set. Isn't that just the coolest effect?

Now, I promise, I was just going to do a plain card...but I could hear my Pop 'n Cuts crying out, 'use me, use me!' I do believe I might be incapable of making a card that doesn't have a pop up inside. Those other cards are so boring! What happens when you open them? Nothing! I added more Goosebumps inside, plus some inking and stamping. I was quite pleased to see that the larger of the Mini Rosettes fit the center of the pop up beautifully. The sentiment was stamped on a piece cut using the Tattered Banners die.

Have you entered to win the Pop 'n Cuts die I'm giving away? You definitely need to!! The giveaway ends Sunday night (Oct. 7th) so hurry on over here and leave a comment, if you haven't already!

All of the supplies I used can be found at Inspiration Emporium via the links below. Be sure to use my coupon code to save 10% off your order!

Thanks so much for stopping by! I hope you have a chance to get creative this weekend! :)

  3. While I admit I ADORE/LOVE/WANTtoDIE with Everything you make…I do over most things and this card is one for sure. I have a tutorial for mercury glass on my blog last year so I took love that spray but I'm not sure I would have ever thought to add it to those little vials. I will now. But the colors, the glitter, the skull, the texture fade….I"m so in love with it all. I will admit that I love the texture fades but never know what to do with them. I am hoping that following your ideas I may actually find some cool things to do with them. I agree with you that while the alcohol ink technique was a minor player in this card, the effect is terrific and I would say exactly as it should be. I'm so bummed because I don't have any Goosebump and only have MIchael's to shop from . Hubby will kill me if I place one more mail order because you know I cannot buy one project…I have to make the shipping worth it and that means at least a $50 order if not $100…..

That background is so cool and love how you used the diffusers for that skull, which now I know I must have! I have the smaller version, but how can I resist the big guy! Fabulous!

  26. Shelly, love the card! I know what you mean about making a card without a pop-up. I tried to justify using one inside three sympathy cards I had to make, but I couldn't come up with anything appropriate for that occasion...
