Eileen Hull's Vintage Kitchen Sneak Peek!

Hi all! As I promised yesterday, I'm sharing two projects I made using dies from Eileen Hull's latest release from Sizzix - Vintage Kitchen. These dies will be shipping at the end of this year, so you have lots of time to save your pennies, because you will want all of them!

The first project I made uses Eileen's Canister die, which might just be my favorite of the collection. There are so many possibilities with this die! I decided it would make a perfect little tea cannister. I covered the mat board with papers from Graphic 45's Botanical Tea collection, and added a wood knob and feet.

My second project uses Eileen's Loaf Pan die. How cute is this?! This one was covered with some pretty paper from My Mind's Eye and tied with a pretty ribbon. So quick and easy and perfect for Christmas gifts from your kitchen. I even found a great gluten-free Zucchini Bread recipe to bake for my sample. :)

Perfect Pearls Pop it Ups!

For the past week I've been taking the latest class from Online Card Classes - Stretch Your Stamps 2. Last week I had both of my kids home (yay!) so I didn't have time to follow along (family first!) so I took some time this weekend to play with some of the techniques they shared.

One of my faves was from Day 2. Jennifer McGuire's Metallic On Black technique is a stunner! I am never a fan of 'CASEing' a card, but I love using the card sample as inspiration for my own style. Jennifer's card featured a die cut window opening in the front. When I looked at it, I immediately thought I could do something similar with a Pop it Ups die.

I almost went with Karen Burniston's Butterfly Pivot die (Jennifer used a butterfly die cut in her card), but I really needed to make a birthday card for my brother, so I instead used the Katie Label Pivot die along with Karen's new gears dies. The stamps I used from Artistic Outpost's Industrial Backgrounds set and Tim Holtz's Simple Sayings.

How cool are these gears?! Jennifer used a heat embossing technique on her sentiment die that I wanted to reproduce on the gears. I tried to figure out how to get colors that matched the Perfect Pearls that I'd used on the stamping when I thought, why not brush the whole gear with Perfect Pearls and then emboss it? I tried it and it looks amazing! Not sure if I discovered something new or if this has been done by stampers for the last 20 years. It's certainly new to me and I'll be experimenting with the idea more in the future.

I even used the PP on the Alpha Parts from Tim Holtz. You can see that it rubs off a bit, but I think that makes it look even cooler. I spritzed it with water to set it, but if you were doing this on a piece that would get handled a lot, I would probably seal it with something to make sure it didn't totally rub off.

Glittery Steampunk Pop it Ups Card

Hi all! Today I'm sharing a card that is actually a bit of a remake of an old project. A little over a year ago I made this steampunk time machine card. It's been one of my most pinned and viewed projects but unfortunately, two of the dies I used to make it are no longer available. Fortunately, earlier this year Karen Burniston released her Accordion Fancy Label die, which is even more perfect than the original Accordion 3D die (it comes with so many companion dies!). Then, when she came out with her Clock and Gears dies last month, I knew I had to recreate the card so that everyone would be able to make it.

I've been hoarding this Graphic 45 paper for ages and decided to use the last of it for this card...it's just so perfect! Since this is my (very late) birthday card for Karen, I wanted it to have more of a feminine style than the original card, so I decided to use Elizabeth Craft Designs' Silk Microfine glitter on the gears.

Speaking of which, I may have just found my all-time favorite glitter! It's so fine, all I had to do was run my cardstock through my Xyron sticker machine, cut it using the gear dies, peel off the release paper and cover the adhesive with glitter. I used my fingers to spread it around and tapped off the excess and I was done. No muss, no fuss, no waiting for glue to dry and making a big mess!

If you've never worked with using clear panels in your accordion cards, Karen has a fantastic tutorial HERE that will walk you through the steps. It's so easy to do and you can get such stunning effects!

Here is the card when it's closed - so cool! I just love the combination of these G45 papers and stamps with Karen's dies and the ECD glitter. Perfection!

Of course, everything is always so much better in person so here's a quick video of the card opening. It's a bit overexposed, but you can see how pretty the glittered gears are. Crossing my fingers that Karen loves it as much as I do!

Be Still - Beeswax Artist Trading Block

 Working with beeswax on an ATB has been on my list of things to do for a long time. I love the soft, vintage look it gives to collaged pieces and knew it would be amazing on a block. This week, I wanted to make a special gift for one of my best friends and thought it was the perfect time to experiment! I pulled out my 3D Block die from Eileen Hull, some of my favorite papers and embellishments from Tim Holtz, heated up my craft iron, and started playing. Here's how it all came together:

I cut my box pieces from medium weight chipboard using Eileen Hull's 3D Block die. I assembled the block, using Beacon 3-in-1 glue on all the tabs. I wanted this to be very durable and wet glue tends to be better than tape for a long-lasting hold.

Next, I covered the box with various papers from Tim Holtz's Menagerie collection, as well as Remnant Rubs, Tissue Tape, and Chit Chat stickers. After I was happy with the look, I sanded and inked all the edges.

Now for the fun part! There are lots of ways to apply the beeswax, but this way is the easiest and most simple for me. First, I sprinkled a few beeswax pellets over the surface. Next, I used a hot craft iron to melt them and spread them over the block. I worked my way around the block adding more beeswax when needed. Make sure you're careful around the rub-ons; if you overheat them, they can break apart.

To adhere metal elements, allow beeswax to puddle in the area you'd like to apply your embellishment and push it into the puddle. Let cool.

For this side, I covered the block with paper, then fussy cut the bird and adhered it on top. I added a bit of lace and some Chit Chat stickers.

This side might just be my favorite! After covering it with paper, I cut out the eggs and adhered them, smudging around the edges with a black Distress marker and a blending pen. I added the Remnant Rubs and then covered the panel with beeswax. The Adornments piece was adhered with wax.

On this panel I added Remnant Rubs and Chit Chat stickers. I love the way the beeswax changes the color of the stickers. I also used a little strip of Tissue Tape, which looks very cool after it's been covered with wax.

For the last side, I added lots of different papers - both fussy cut from the pad and also from the Thrift Shop Ephemera collection. The Philosophy Tag is held in place by wax - I'd already glued the box shut so I couldn't get the brad through (oops!).

To finish my block I added little feet made from mini spools that were inked with Gathered Twigs Distress ink.
