Pop 'n Cuts - Oh! Happy Day!

Today is my mom's birthday - Happy Birthday, Mom! - and this is the card I made her. I have been dying to share it, but I didn't want to ruin the surprise for her. It's another Sizzix Pop 'n Cuts card (shocking!) and I so love how it turned out.

It is very rare for me to use patterned paper, but I love Karen Burniston's samples using it, and she inspired me to use up some of the tons of paper I buy, but never use. This paper is an older pattern from My Mind's Eye. Hobby Lobby had a bunch on clearance and I snapped it all up! I just love how it works with this die. The outside of my card was cut with the PNC Base Die (you could also cut it with a paper trimmer). I added a flourish from Karen's Hello Sizzlits Set that I edged with glitter. On the bottom, I added a length of idea-ology Crinkle Ribbon that I dyed using Black Soot Distress Stain. I knew this was going to be a little bulky, and the ribbon is a pretty way to hold it closed.

Ta da! How pretty is this?? I almost hated to put it into the mail! My mom loved it, though, so that totally makes it worth it. The insert I used for this card is the Pop 'n Cuts 3-D Flower die. What's great is that the Hello Sizzlits set also has a flower die that perfectly matches the pop-up flowers, so you can build them up for an even prettier effect! I added one layer of patterned paper and then another that I cut from white cardstock, sponged with ink, and then spritzed with Perfect Pearls mist.

Seriously...I know my own card shouldn't make me swoon, but I love all this glitter and prettiness! I felt like the area above the flowers needed something. I remembered the Flagpole Strip Die and thought I'd use that. But what to hang on it? Hmmm...how about Tim's Mini Bird Cage, with a healthy dose of glitter?! I really think this makes the whole card - it was my mom's favorite part! The little bird is from Karen's Birds on a Wire Strip Die. I cut it apart from the rest and sponged it with a little Bundled Sage Distress ink. I don't have a lot of sentiment stamps for birthdays, but I thought this one from Artistic Outpost's Songbirds stamp set was perfect. I stamped it onto a banner that I cut with Tim's Tattered Banners die.

What do you get the mom who has everything? In my house, it usually means an Amazon gift card (we are big readers)! I wanted a pretty way to present it, so I created a little gift card holder from one of the Sizzix Matchbook dies. By only folding it on one of the score lines, and cutting a little notch using the Baroque Photo Corners die, it makes the perfect holder (you also need to trim just a bit off the end).

I wish you could see this in person - I am still covered in glitter and I finished it last week! ;-) Most of the supplies I used can be purchased at Inspiration Emporium via the links below. Be sure and use my coupon code - stamptramp - to save 10% off your order!

  6. Shelly, I love what you are doing with the Sizzix Pop 'n Cuts dies. You are giving me so many fine examples whenever the base die I have pre-ordered FINALLY is back in stock. This is a hot item that will keep Sizzix busy for a long time, I believe. I just love 3-D cards and scrapbook pages...I have taught them for years!

I never get tired of seeing pop-ups!
I hope there are a lot of reasons for you to keep creating these !

i love the subtle creamy colors, but the glitter adds that bit of extra colorand texture.
Great idea to use the matchbookdie as a giftcardholder.
