12 Days of Ornaments - Day 6!

Hi all! Hope you're having a great weekend so far. Today's ornament is a fairly quick and easy project - nice at this time of year. A few months ago I found some cedar paper wrappers at Tuesday Morning. They are meant to be used to wrap salmon for grilling, but I had a feeling they'd be better used for stamping! I found them yesterday in a pile I was going through and thought I'd experiment today. Read below to see what I came up with!

Begin by cutting one oval from a cedar sheet (or other wood paper) and one oval from medium weight chipboard. Stamp the elk image from Artistic Outpost's Midwinter stamp set onto the cedar oval using black StazOn ink. Let dry, then adhere the cedar oval to the chipboard.

Ink the edges of the ornament with Gathered Twigs Distress ink. Stamp the sentiment (also from AO's Midwinter set) using red pigment ink. Immediately emboss with Fired Brick Distress embossing powder.

Using hot glue, adhere a length of Pine Twine to the edge of the ornament. Drill a hole in the top to tie the hanger through. To finish the ornament, tie with jute string and some rusty jingle bells.

Fast and easy - right? I think these would make gorgeous gift tags as well. I would love to do a series with various nature images. So simple yet so beautiful!

  3. What a great idea! At first glance I thought it was solid wood. Love the rustic feel. Thanks for doing this series.

  4. I thought it was wood! Awesome! I wish Tim would make the snowshoes into a die. Wouldn't that make an awesome ornament! PINNED!!!!

  5. I think you must have served on Santa's design team! Each ornament is spectacular and I look forward to each post!

  6. I like the way you think Shelly! Love the elk!

  7. What fun! A perfect rustic surface on which to stamp that terrific AO reindeer! Love the country feel to this one.

  8. This is so neat....I thought you had cut an oval out of actual wood! The technique is so much easier than that! =)
