Hi all! Day 8! I can't believe there are just four more ornaments left. Some of my favorite ideas are still to come - I can't wait to share them with you.
Today's ornament was a bit of a struggle. I was trying to replicate a metal deer ornament I saw at Lowes that had a hammered bronze finish. Try as I might, I couldn't get it to work! I think if I'd had Antique Bronze Distress Stain Spray it could have happened. What I did have was Brushed Pewter, so I finally gave up on the inspiration piece and embraced the silver. And I'm so happy I did! I love the look of this finish. Here's how it came together:
Begin by die cutting two deer from medium weight chipboard using Tim Holtz's Prancing Deer die from Sizzix. Glue them together and paint with Black Soot Distress Paint.
When dry, spray fairly heavily with Brushed Pewter Distress Stain Spray. Use a heat tool to dry the finish.
When the silver stain has dried, gently dab the surface with Black Soot Distress paint, creating random splotches of paint. Immediately dry with a heat gun.
Finally, spray a heavy application of Brushed Pewter Distress Stain Spray onto the deer and immediately dry with heat gun..
How cool is that finish?! Layering the paint and the stain creates a subtle dimensional appearance, giving the surface the look of hammered metal.
I wanted to keep the ornament simple, so I just gave my deer a litle scarf and attached a hanger. Very quick and easy!
The supplies I used can be found at Inspiration Emporium via the links below (except for the chipboard, which is available from Amazon). Remember to use my coupon code - stamptramp - to save 10% on your order.
